5 Year Anniversary Today!!!
I cannot believe is has been 5 years. I was getting ready to go to the hospital and I weighed 488 lbs. I was a dead man who was breathing. I sweated all the time, had high blood pressure, had sleep apnea and used a C-PAP nightly, couldn't walk to the end of the driveway to get my mail and overall was finished with life. Today I weigh 280 lbs, freeze in 80 degree weather, have not used a CPAP since the day of surgery, bloodpressure is always in the low normal range without medications, cholesterol is below 100 and I go to Disney World 3 or 4 times a year and walk all over the parks, even ride some of the roller coasters. I have regained some 50 lbs from my low and am not happy with that but I have started working on it and the weight is coming off again. I have had a few problems including having a hernia repair, low potassium and loose stools ( My wife wants to add horrible smelling, maggot gagging gas problems.)
I was looking at some of the old pictures of myself, (my preop picture is posted on the profile page) and I don't hardly remember that person. I have been able to participate in my childrens life and my wife and I are closer than we have ever been.
I have to stop myself from going up to perfect strangers who are obese or SO and telling them there is a cure for this horrible disease. I know it is a personal decision and I don't thin I would have wanted someone to discuss it with me..
I still HATE the discrimination that goes on against the MO and SO community. This is a horrible DISEASE and should be recognized by the medical community and society for what it is. I don't ever want to forget the hurt I used to feel by some of the comments and actions that were directed to me.
While I seldom post here I am still come to this website most everyday. It has provided me with so much support over the years and has been invaluable over the last 5 years in supporting me and helping me with research I needed to do.
I am so thankful I chose the DS and I chose the surgeon that I did. Dr. Kim saved my life and I am forever indebted to him. For those of you who are just starting the journey, stick with it, it is so worth it. If I can ever answer any questions or be of support to any of you please contact me My email address is [email protected].

Congratulations!!!! I had no idea how much better my life could be without the 200 extra pounds I was hauling around! It must be wonderful to be released from the C-Pap machine. Like you, my bloodpressure runs a bit low and my cholesterol is fantastic. I am no longer diabetic and if I got nothing else from this procedure, getting rid of that demon was so worth it. Congratulations and enjoy LIVING you life and not just observing it from the sidelines!
Yay Charlie, you have done remarkable. Good job!
