Spent the night in the ER - Tests were inconclusive

Well mercy me you have had some rough patches, huh?  Sorry it's been a tough one.

What Kerry said about trapped gas from the procedure and the plane right is interesting.  The worst pain I've ever felt in my life was from a gas bubble that decided to land in my shoulder after abdominal surgery.  It was horrible horrible.

Let us know what you find out from your surgeon!

Melody,
So sorry you had to deal with this. Lots of good ideas. Sounds like you did the right thing in going to the ER to be sure. I found this Gas Defense that I love to use on occasion. IF you have gas in the intestines, it is supposed to break it up and it has worked great for me on a coupleof occasions, pretty fast acting too which is a blessing.. .like 20-30 minutes.

As an example we had a dinner we had to go, so food choices were limited... I ate, but not much of the pasta....I pay for pasta...so I always have some of this on hand as I get into situations where I have to eat something.

The flying could had a lot to do with this also. This can be found at Walmart or about major drug store. Have a safe pain free trip home.

I am sorry you are having a hard time!  I guess the good news is that all your parts look fine?

I hope it is just gas and passes quickly.
Started researching the DS in Dec 2008.  2 years and one baby later(my 3rd), I'm finally switched!

I took a VSG patient, about the same length of time post-op as you, to the ER with the same symptoms.  She was in incredible pain, and could not get comfortable, no matter what she did.  She was sobbing, and we were both sure that there had to be something wrong with her sleeve.  I was at a loss, because how could it be gas -- she didn't have her intestines touched and could barely eat anything.  I had Nicolle on the phone, walking me through what to make sure the medical folks looked at -- and there it went -- the loudest, longest, most intense fart I ever heard!!  Then, all was good.  We left the ER without ever seeing a doctor, and hit the road for our 4 hour trip home.  I've never had gas that hurt, and she is no whiner, so this was bad pain.

LOL!! I have had that kind of gas before. It woke me out of my sleep. I could barely breath, at first I thought I was in labor and just did not know I was pregnant. It started moving, so then I thought maybe I was having a heart attack. After being advised to drink some warm water with a little baking soda. These loud belches and farts just rumbled right out of me and all was right with the world again.

Gas is no joke!! I have long learned to respect it.

That was my thought that night!  She was terribly embarrassed, and I was just thinking -- damn, gas is something I know have a new found respect for!!

I had something similar happen - I started getting searing pains in my upper right abdomen a couple weeks after surgery.  They hurt like a *****!  They were aggravated by too much activity (and by three weeks I was overdoing it sometimes because other than that pain I was feeling good.)  I had the same ER experience and the same "who knows?"  One of the surgical residents who is working with my surgeon said it could be that I pulled on an internal stitch and that was causing the pain.  The issues went away gradually but it was frustrating not having a for sure dx.
