I get a little bit of a cloud on the water in the toilet bowl, kind of like what you see in puddles on asphalt, but never an "oil slick."

To be quite honest I have a hard time imagining that the smell of my gas or poo could get any worse.

My mother in law made a mixed bean fridge soup (leftover chicken from the night before, veggies we had available, yadda) and by GOD if I am not a walking toxic cloud. I seriously have to leave wherever it was I was last farting because it is seriously THAT NASTY (but damn that soup was good).

Either way, I doubt highly anything could be WORSE than the last two days of bean soup inspired gas-a-thon. So no, having poop that stinks or farting does not scare me in the least. XD

Lissa:   It isn't going to smell worse, but it is going to smell different.  And, guess what?  It will continue to change as your intestinal system heals, as you introduce new foods to this new anatomy, and experiment with what will work for you personally -- which will also continue to change.

I fully acknowledge that scent we have become familiar with over years & years seems to be some sort of comfort, strange as that is.  As we experience all these new changes post-op, some people just seem to lose perspective.  You have a great attitude -- you will do just fine post-op.

(my Five year old is Lissa, I'm Nicole :) )

I also had to deal with bowel changes after having my gallbladder removed in 2003 so I'm pretty *shrug* whatever when I read about oil slicks or runny stool or farting, because I've had a lot of similar issues with having my gallbladder removed. If I eat certain foods, or too much of certain foods I have a bathroom urgency and it's not to pee! And since gallbladder removal one could say I don't necessarily have much of an issue EVER with constipation quite the opposite!

I tell you what expelling excess fat I eat into the toilet instead of storing it around my midsection, hips and thighs and everywhere else is a trade off I will gladly welcome.

Hey Nicole -

I had the same issues post-gall bladder.  And guess what?  They were completely resolved by the DS!

My bowels IMPROVED post-op, and in fact, I am actually more constipated than I was pre-op - but I go 1X daily (usually) thanks to Magnesium Oxide.

And, I don't have farts.  Really.  The DS has just been amazing for my intestinal tract.

Hey Aimee:   You are making such amazing progress!!  Congrats.

I didn't have my GB removed pre-op, but I am also a DS constipation gal.  At least 3 out of 4 weeks I am taking two stool softeners a day, and mag ox every night.

I eat a LOT of carbs, and when I do, GasX  &  Devrom are all I need to keep others from having to experience my indulgences.

It is almost all too simple!

Amen, sister. :)

I even ate *pasta* today (I know, not great for weight loss) with NO GAS.  None.

The only thing that gives me gas now is dairy.  And even that is fading.

I have ZERO, ZERO, ZERO poop issues.

And thanks for the congrats - I'm at 50% EWL at 5 months!

I had such horrible gas and poo problems BEFORE DS - including crapping my pants in public 3 times - that I was certain it was going to get worse, but I was still willing to take the chance because I knew my obesity would kill me.  THANK GOD my poo problems disappeared, I go once a day in the morning, and I'm actually less gassy now than I was before.  AND I've seen PLENTY of these types of threads by RnYers complaining about their horrible, uncontrollable gas, so it's not just DS folks that have potty issues.

Pre-op, I had a bowel movement 5 or 6 times per day, and it stunk. My cats used to turn around and scratch the floor, trying to bury me while I sat on the throne. Post-op, I go once every other day or so, and the cat lies on the lid of the toilet tank while I'm in there. So I have the Feline Seal of Approval, telling me that while **** stinks, it apparently stinks LESS in my case.

My intestines must be crazy different from everyone else's! I am 2 weeks out, and I have pooped and tooted, and neither have been particularly offensive. I'm sure it will be different as I start eating more/different foods, but for now, I was SO WORRIED about my post-op poops, and I have yet to experience anything to actually worry about. I stocked myself up with oil-based air fresheners (the little ones from Bath & Body Works), including one in each bathroom and one in my purse. I use them because I like them, but I have not actually needed them for any particularly offensive odors post-op.
