They told me in grade 1 that poop was funny.

And so is this post.

Poopy Poop Pooh Pooh Pooh.

I have a recently trained 3yr old who thinks that poop is the best thing ever!

Here's to my poop and yours. I can't wait to stink up the neighbourhood!

An open response to new DSers or those investigating the DS:

Your pancreas failing causing you to become an insulin dependant diabetic.  Diabeties leading to blindness or limb loss.  Your heart failing, causing brain damage or death.  Your joins deteriorating causing pain and disability.  Blood clots.  An increased risk of cancer.  THESE are the things you should be affraid of!  THESE should motivate you!  But you're hesitant about saving your life because of the smell of your poop?

Be honest.  Your **** smells.  Your **** is going to smell.  The smell of your poop is not the real reason you're putting off having this life saving surgery.  You're scared, and that's ok.  Admit it so you can address the real issues behind your hesitation.  Scared of change?  Scared of loosing your life on the oporating table?  Scared of no longer having overeating or poor eating a an emotional crutch?  You have your reasons.  Be honest.  Explore them.

I just gotta post this .. not everyone has horrendous gas/farts and not everyone has horrific smelling poo.

I rarely pass gas. I get gas feelings but when that happens it's time to have a BM so I do. It doesn't smell any worse than it did pre-op.

I also routinely eat carbs and sugar with no side-effect.

Now, I only post this to show that this doesn't happen to everyone. Just like not all RNY patients dump -- not all DS patients are walking stinky gas factories.

The thing that nobody seems to talk about that is so gross to me is the oil slicks! OMG! I really dislike these and as a result limit my fat intake because not only is it gross out the other end but it doesn't feel as good to me to eat as it did pre-op.

I don't believe that all DSers experience oil slicks either.  I had one experience with one when I first started eating solid food at about 2 weeks out.  I have not had the problem since then.  So, this can go to show that we all are different, which we already knew!

Strange. Where is the fat you are eating going then? Because it has to go somewhere if we don't absorb 80% of it!

I've never heard of a DS patient not experiencing them so this is a first. :)

hmmm...I guess I can't answer that.  I know I am not absorbing it or I would not have lost 60 pounds in 3 months, but I truly don't have oil slicks.  I do not eat a low fat diet, but I don't do overkill on the fat intake either.  I will consider myself blessed for not having them.

I don't have oil slicks -- I think maybe twice I've seen a thin sheen of oil or a couple of droplets in going on 6 years.  The rest of the time, the fat I am excreting is fully admixed in and bound to the rest of my poop, possibly in part bound to the modest amount of fiber I eat.  My poop floats, so I know there is fat it it, but I don't get slicks.
