My thoughts about WLS and who should have (WARNING: Big Opinions You Might Not Like)
Everyone, particularly Diana, has covered just about everything I could say. Except for one thing:
There is NO such thing as a healthy morbidly obese person.
There are morbidly obese people whose relentlessly progressing damage isn't evident, yet.
But, you couldn't call them healthy.
That's like a wood house saying," Sure I have termites, but they're not hurting me."
The terminology is "morbidly obese" for a very good reason. It will kill you more quickly and surely than WLS ever will.

There's no such thing as a healthy skydiving accident, either--- but we don't yell epithets at skydivers in the streets: we accept it as a choice of a high-risk lifestyle. Taken in this light, conscious people who choose morbid obesity (and there are some-- I was among them) aren't so hard to understand.
Some people would/will choose a shorter life, lived on their own terms-- than a longer one on terms they can't embrace. Some people believe that their feelings of relative health at a large size will stay with them a long while-- and prefer that risky choice to the unknown outcomes of things like WLS.
I understand that choice, but ultimately I did make a different one.

How dare you judge others for having WLS! You know nothing about anyone's situation. Hmm...let's see....I'm 45, 5'5" and started at 257 lbs. You have no friggin' idea what my health problems are or aren't. You fight for fat acceptance, yet you look down upon "lightweight". You have a lot of dog damned nerve.
I guess even though I had a heart attack at the age of 42, I should have been denied surgery because I wasn't fat enough. Give me a break. You're a ******g idiot.
