I posted this on our state and Men's Forum earlier, so thought "why not here" as well .. :

I had a little bit of hamburger meat but no Manwich stuff, so I made "school cafeteria style"  (I also call it "bachelor-style") Sloppy Joes using some old buillon cubes I found in a jar in the cabinet earlier today  ..    If anyone is interested, here is how to make them:

Brown some beef in a skillet ..   along with some onion ..

Dissolve 3-4 chicken boullion cubes in some ho****er and add to the meat ...  Put in several squirts of ketchup (a good brand, like Heinz or Hunts) and a few squirts of yellow mustard (or spicy brown mustard) ..  Mix all together thoroughly and simmer it for 10-15 minutes until it boils down to a thick meat mixture, like traditional Sloppy Joes ..

I know it doesn't sound good, but you'd be surprised at how good it tastes!

Hee Hee!  That's how my mom made sloppy joes (minus the chicken bouillon; just ketchup & mustard) long before manwich hit the shelves.  That & french fries were my favorite childhood meal.  Who knows?  Maybe someday I'll have it all again even if it's just a fry or two.

Too funny - over Thanksgiving I went to Key West and my one goal was to have a Sloppy Joe at Sloppy Joe's (the bar that came up with the recipe!) I have the pictures on my profile (I would paste them in to my reply but the security program on my work computer won't let me!) It was a GREAT Sloppy Joe and sounds much more like your recipe that Manwich!

Ahh  I had wondered where they came from (heard about that bar, btw,, but didn't know it was the "home"!)  Thanks for posting ..

Minus the bouillon and added just a tiny bit of sugar and this is how my family has always made sloppy joes.  We actually just call it barbeque since that's what my grandparents call it.  I like to brown a little extra meat when making tacos so I can make this yummy treat!

Thanks for sharing!
