She's responding over on the r&r forum where she can have a tantrum about it and call us names.  Food withdrawals and DS envy are tough for some, obviously.

Well, that is good because that's just where her mindless, uneducated rants belong. She'll be here in a year or so begging for our help with her revision.  I can wait.

Obviously you and Dr. Simpson haven't seen the 2005 study by Dr. Gagner that shows the fecal fat content of DSers postop and preop as:

For Post-Op DSers

Fat in: 168.6
Fat out: 136.7
Amount malabsorbed: 81%

For Pre-op MOs:

Fat in: 126.0
Fat out: 10.3
Amount malabsorbed: 8.2%

And you obviously haven't done any research on flagyl either.  Here's an article for you:

From: http://www.oley.org/lifeline/bacter.html

Antibiotics

"If the dietary therapy is insufficient to control symptoms, it should be continued with the addition of antibiotics. Broad spectrum antibiotics, such as Bactrim and Flagyl, used continuously, at half the usual antibiotic dose, are often very effective. Trials of different antibiotics may be needed to find the right combination. In addition to Bactrim and Flagyl, we have found Augmentum and Keflex to be beneficial. Our most severe case of small bowel bacterial overgrowth was a child with short bowel syndrome who suffered severe d-lactic acidosis with seizures. He went through several treatment regimes before we identified oral Vancomycin, a potent antibiotic, as an effective measure to control his overgrowth. After the acute overgrowth has been controlled, antibiotic therapy may be required only for a few days out of every month or may be so severe as to require prolonged continuous therapy. If symptoms reappear after a few months, switching antibiotics is often necessary. We have seen no development of antibiotic resistant complications utilizing this therapy over prolonged periods of time, probably because of the lower doses utilized."

Shannon, you commented on the R&R board that because DSers don't follow blindly that we are not a brilliant bunch.  Well, we think the opposite.   We believe those that follow blindly, even so-called nurses and SURGEONS, without doing their own research are less than brilliant.  You coming on here spewing your trash will fall on deaf ears as we around here KNOW how to filter through the smokescreen of stupidity.  Don't you worry about us.  We know how to take care of ourselves, thank you very much.

Read it again Peaches, Dr. Simpson clearly states "I will take care of my former DS patients until the last artery clogs"...hmmmm now how many ways can that be taken?  Does it now tell you why he doesn't consider DS safe?  Now we know why it won't be done in 10 years don't we.

Off to crawl under my bridge.  It will be refreshing after this forum.

I don't like it when a doctor tries to be cute about saying something

if he REALLY feels this way then he needs to have the balls to say it straight - not dance with words....

and until he does so, I have very little respect for him as a doctor.

Why isn't he addressing the questions about it's safety???

You tell me......

So...would that be "both" patients out of 300 plus that he will be taking care of. When you only see 2 out of 300 patients I would think that it would be hard to get an idea of how your patients are doing with labs and "clogged arteries" and all.

How can he come to such conclusions if no patients ever see him for follow up?  I'd rather go with the data of docs that do have follow-up patients and tha****ches their progress.

Lapbander chiming in here.... I hope Dr. S clarifies his "artery clogging" statement, but I have to say that when I read that, I thought it was just a turn or phrase, i.e., "till the fat lady sings".  But, it's a darn shame that he didn't address his reasoning for discontinuing the DS.  Tami
