Well, I guess if he doesn't take insurance that leaves me out.  I was just thinking, I have some family in FL and it might work out for me if there was a doctor there that did it.  I guess I can scratch that idea off the list.   Thanks, Ronnie

The man has done, quite literally, thousands of DS surgeries.  He's one of the big guns, like Anthone, the Rabkins, Husted, etc...  Google him - Michel Gagner.  He's brilliant.

As others have said, Dr G is one of the masters, and a pioneer. He did the world's FIRST laparoscopic DS back in 99 I believe Gagner is to the east coast, what Rabkin or Keshishian is to the west coast.... possibly even moreso in that he can say "I did it first"

I thought it was Dr. Smith in Atlanta.

Smith was 3rd to do LAP... first to do the hand-sewn anastomosis... from his website: bold was from the website.... red added by me Dr. Smith performs the Totally Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch, with a Hand-Sewn Duodenal-Ileal Anastomosis. He was the third bariatric surgeon in the world to perform the totally laparoscopic Duodenal Switch procedure, and the first bariatric surgeon in the world to present the Hand-Sewn Duodenal-Ileal Anastomosis Technique of the Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch. There are few bariatric surgeons who perform the Totally Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch procedure.

no... though he MAY have been the second... first was definitely Gagner.. Baltasar even wrote about it: from this paper: http://www.duodenalswitch.com/baltasarlapds.pdf in the introduction: The duodenal switch (DS) is a well-established technique for the surgical treatment of morbid obesity as a variant of the hybrid or mixed Scopinaro biliopancreatic diversion (BPD).1-6 This procedure combines the early restriction of a pylorus-preserving vertical subtotal gastrectomy with the malabsorption of a BPD (exclusion of the first half of the small bowel, with a 75-cm common limb). Michel Gagner at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, performed the first laparoscopic duodenal switch (LapDS) in September 1999 Apparently, it was Gagner and Ren (believe it or not)
