Topic: RE: knee replacement surgery. . if i had known then. .
My left knee was in bad shape for years.  The doctors in PA would not consider surgery because of my age.  So I suffered for years taking lots of pain meds and anti imflamatories.  When we relocated to DE, I saw a new knee surgeon at the suggestion of my new family doctor.  He wanted to do my surgery as soon as possible.  He was surprized that I could stand or even walk.  I waited to have gastric bypass surgery to get my weight under 200 pounds.

My left knee surgery was done in August 2005.  I call my left knee my "bionic knee".  I just had knee replacement surgery on my right knee.  I call this knee my new "bionic knee".  The first few weeks, I was in pain and used my pain meds.  It is very important to do physical therapy before and after surgery.  I had Dr. Bodenstab as my surgeon. He is totally awesome and so is his staff

I consider my knee surgeries to be quality of life surgeries.  I would do them again in a second if I had to.  Down the road, I may have to....studies show that they last about 20 years.  Gastric Bybass surgery saved my life and my knee surgeries gave me quality of life.

I'd had it sooner.

I had both knees replaced, same day. 1 anesthesia, 1 hospitalization, 1 therapy.

The operation was easier because I was lighter. I had exercised bunches and my quad muscles and arms were in good shape.  Went back to work in 7 weeks. The 6th week we went to Disney. (Rented a scooter too much walking).

Good Luck

Topic: RE: Had my Pre-Op on 2/22. Plastic Surgery 1 Week Away!
I am actually on (medicaid) or Delaware Physicians Care, I am on it because back in April of last year i had a bad accident when i worked for the state of delaware and they terminated my position because state workers have no rights and after 182 days on STD (short term disability) they have that right.

I like Dr Peter's as a person, but i had some very major set backs under his care, he tried to make me as comfortable as possible, but through my own experiences, i would never let him touch me again and hes very lucky i didnt file a malpractice lawsuit agaisnt him, but again, thats my own personal experience, i underwent 3 major surgeries, all complications, and every time i had to go back into the hospital i ended back up in icu, (5/2005, 2/2006, 10/2006)

If your looking for a plastic surgeon to get your (tummy tuck) let me know and i will give you the info i have available,

Dr Irgau really wanted me to have Dr. Mehlan at Temple do an exploratory but he left it up to me. I wanted to put it off since I was quite tired of having surgeries. Unfortunately though on Dec 27th I woke up in horrible pain, ended up in the ER with Dr. Wynn (who had no prior knowledge of the situation) so I figured she'd be just as much a "new set of eyes." As a doctor from Temple so she did my most recent exploratory on Dec 30th annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd NOTHING! Boooyah! Ha Dr. Irgau and I pretty much laugh about the whole thing now. **** I'm like a VIP patient with him anymore.

Topic: Had my Pre-Op on 2/22. Plastic Surgery 1 Week Away!
Yesterday, had my pre-op with my Plastic Surgeon(Joseph Thornton) i was kinda surprised they only do my type of plastic surgeries at Wilmington Hospital, but i am okay with it,  I go in on 3/2 a week from today at 6:30am. He informed me of how they were going to cut me from my left side (back) across the front to my right side (back), and as long i dont have complications from my  diabetes or anemia, i should only be admitted one, maybe two nights. I am so excited, i have waited 6 years to have this surgery and this time when my drs office requested the coverage for the surgery, they said yes at the first request. The first week, a little pain and discomfort, by week 2/3 he wants me out grocery shopping, by week 4 i should be healed,

Well, if that is where we end up, Peters will be doing an exploratory ASAP when school gets out so I can heal quickly b4 my plastics!  We don't want to do it before school gets out though due to an increase in pain following the exploratory! :-)

Temple was really nice. But basically all they said was "well all the surgery reports, xrays, ctscans blah blah look normal. We'll have to do a exploratory surgery ourselves to take a look and see."

Oh dear lord! :-)

Well, I have done the bentyl, but it was while I was having all of the other stuff so who knows!  I have an appointment with Ruffini on the 24th so we will see..I already take a probiotic so Im not buying that one either!

Hopkins was a bust...they will only accept people who are looking for revision or stomaphx (sp?).  SO I have a call into Penn State, which was Dr. Peters second pick.  I am waiting on a call from the program director who will take the case to the surgeons to decide if I can have an appointment! Temple is my next call.

This is nuts!  I just want it all to end so I can move on.  As Dr. Peters said lets change the oil, get the engine light off, etc. so I can get a wax job (plastic) in July! :-)
