Dolly, Having WLS is not an easy choice to begin with. I talked with the surgeon 1st, Dr Irgau, then I found a  support group, went, talked with post-ops, listened to their stories, and made a decision based on my research. OBTW that took aqbout 10 months to make that decision. The 1st support group I attended was PMRI through CHRIAS. That was the only 1 at the time. That 1st meeting I was hooked. I had never been in a roomfull of people where I actually felt like I was at home. I had so mu*****ommon with everyone in the room and felt comfortable for the 1st time in my life. Their stories were the same as mine. My journey has been successful because of the support I have gotten not only from my family, but,  mostly because of my friends I have made here and at the many meetings I have attended. There are groups all over the state now. If you would like a current list, I could email it to you. Best to check with the Leaders of each group for details.

I will be 5yrs out in January, RNY, down 200 lbs and loving my new healthy life. If you read some profiles on Obesity help, double click on the names, it will bring up information that we have input. You will find the good, bad and the ugly.

My decision to have Lap-RNY was based on my health issues and the projected amount of time and quality of life I had pre-surgically.  After doing all of my research and consulting with my surgeon twice, I chose the RNY.  He tried to talk me into the Lap-Band because of my risk of complications but we both agreed that I needed to lose the weight faster than the Band allows.  I was that close to dying from my obesity related problems.  The band has it's advantages but I just didn't have time.  I was willing to take the risks involved specifically with my co-morbidities in order to prolong my life and lose the weight faster.  So far at 2 years out, the only bothersome complication I am having is ulcer, which is treatable.

We are each unique in our health issues and what is needed to put a stop to disease progression as far as weight loss is concerned.  Whatever you decide, good luck and stay with that specific program.

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving at our Long Neck home.  Had 3 daughters, spouses and 2 grandchildren...a full house.  Everyone ate well, and then had a rousing game of UNO with the little ones.  Stayed away from the outlets, but did drive downtown and enjoyed the lights.  Just got back to NJ after a 5 hr drive....

I shopped on line Friday, and got some pretty good deals on Amazon.com.  Every hour they had a gold box special.  My daughter thought I would drop her and the neighbor girl off at the Christiana Mall.  On the busiest day of the year.  Silly girl, that answer was NO WAY!
My husband is golfing today (saturday) so I think I might take the kids to the movies.  They'll like that.
I'm actually cooking a turkey breast today.  Since we went to my sister's on Thanksgiving, we don't have all the leftovers.  I'll just cook a mini Thanksgiving dinner for them.
Have a great weekend!

I have never shopped on Black Friday.  It always seems like the best sales happen when I'm broke.  LOL.  We really can't spend anything right now anyways.

We did our 3 hours of bell ringing at the Super Fresh.  Next time, we will do just 1 hour at a time.  The weather report said it was 54 but it sure felt colder.  I did my share of whining about my numb toes and fingers.  We were posted at the exit, between the outer and inner doors so we weren't out in the wind at least.  I've done the bell ringing before and I am always amazed at how many people give during the holidays.  The Salvation Army helps people year round, not just at holiday times.  I was also surprised at how many non-givers can't seem to make eye contact as they passed us by.  Everyone was greeted with a wish for a happy holiday season whether they gave or not.  Some people even gave is dirty looks, so yesterday was full of mixed feelings about people.  Alex and his friend and fellow Scout Sammy will be at Super Fresh today from 10-11 a.m.

The leftovers are almost gone now, even the 1/2 ton of potato salad I made.  Alex ate a full Thanksgiving meal for breakfast.  I ate turkey 2 times and had one slice of my sugar free pie.

I hope everyone has a fine weekend.

I swore I would never go shopping on Black Friday, but my daughter called around 10 this morning asked me to go with her to buy some clothes.  We had fun and missed a lot of the crowds by going a little later in the morning.  No way would I get up that early to shop.  She got some great bargains and was very happy with herself.  I did not buy anything.  I really didn't need anything...I wanted a few things but didn't really want to spend the money.  So who else ventured out?

Hello Ladies!
We had a great Thanksgiving!  Traffic on 95 was a little heavy at times but other than that it was a great day.  My sister is a fabulous cook.  Kids behaved themself.  I was very careful of what I ate (dark meat works great with me).  Carefully choose 1 dessert and only took a sliver.
I bought some great gifts on Amazon this morning.  Just need to get my daughter an inexpensive prepaid phone (this will make phone #4) and they are both done!!
Have a great holiday weekend!

Joanne,
I have alot of potato salad left over.  I used a 5 pound bag of taters for it.  It's so good.  I do not add any sugar to it and I think the only sugar that would naturally occur comes from the small amount of Miracle Whip I use in it.  I will bring you some if you want!  It has the following ingredients:
Redskin potatoes
Onions
Green Pepper
Celery
Parsley
Mayonnaise
Miracle Whip
Mustard
Boiled Eggs
Seasoned Salt
Black Pepper
Mrs. Dash Table Blend.

I don't have a recipe for most things, I just throw stuff together and somehow it always works out.  I guess all the years in foodservice has it's advantages.  Call me if you want some.  I will drop some off to you on our way to town for the bell ringing.  947-0783.  We will be here until about 9:30am.
