I start the fast on Monday. Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful! I was told by a friend not to drink anything purple or red. has anyone else heard of this?

I think your friend is right, but you should have gotten specific instructions from your surgeon. Also no carbonation or caffeine. They need to make sure that they can work around your liver during the surgery.

They probably told you that because red dye #? is supposed to be toxic. Maryellen, the Bariatric Coordinator at St Francis Hospital told me the number but I forget what it is. (She's an RN as well.) Anyway, it doesn't have anything to do with the diet/fast directly. Its not good in general. Oh! I just did a search, its red dye #40. (Article example: http://www.snet.net/features/qa/articles/2001/03160101.shtml) Ask your doctor or nutritionist if you should be aware of it and follow whatever advise they give YOU. Take care, Renay

I just reread my instruction sheet it does not say anything about red or purple. However I am not going risk it. Thanks for the response!

David, Not sure if they changed things or if lap band is different, but I was told clear liquids, water, crystal light lemonade, chicken broth. Best wishes, Debbie

Hi David, I got this tip when I was getting ready and it helped me alot. Make yourself a regular can of soup then strain it and drink that broth. It tastes A LOT better than regular broth and you feel like you've had something more substantial. Best of luck to you, you're on your way! Linda
