how long were you off from work?
I had short term disability. I also had open RNY. I think I could have went back in 4 weeks...but I took the full 6 weeks. It helped with getting into a routine for eating. If you deal with a lot of stress it would be best to take the time and get a routine in place to deal with it. I don't know your situation but if you have the time use it for yourself. You did this surgery to get healthy.
I took the maximum time that I was allowed to go back to work. Eight to ten weeks. The first week you are on a honeymoon and you are probably still in the honeymoon stage. During the second week many people fall into a funk, lose some of that first week energy and can get very depressed. Every person is different.
The other thing to be aware of is that first two months your body is going to be into a ketosis stage. Your breath is going to smell foul, your body may be giving off odors. People will generally steer clear of you at best, at worst they will comment and make remarks about the dead animal living in the cubical.
If you do go back to work make sure you build your schedule around getting plenty of fluids during the day, six small meals per day, vitamins, and plenty of exercise. No excuses are acceptable during the honeymoon period! The first couple of months set the stage for the rest of your life. If you start making excuses early, you will continue to make excuses later!
Good luck (my vote is with your wife). Take the time off, enjoy yourself, and figure out your nutritional and exercise needs. Work can wait...

Scott, I am with your wife as long as you can take the time off and get paid. I had open and was out for 8 weeks but I had complications. I am glad to say one year later I am 125 lbs lighter and feel better then I have ever in my life. Take care !! See you lighter. Joanne Hammond Obesity Help Chapter Leader.
