Eating To Much????
Hello Everyone,
Okay..I am worried..I had my surgery on the 9th of this month and have had no problems at all. In fact I think my biggest problem is I am eating to much. I have heard people say they don't feel hungry but I feel hungry ALOT. I try to measure everything but get hungry a couple of minutes later. And another thing is I can eat EVERYTHING. Nothing seems to faze me. I have had eggs, peanut butter, chili, you name it I have had it and it all goes down and stays there. Is this normal for some? How do I know when I am getting enough? What should I do to cure these hunger pangs?
Thanks for any help!
Kathy
You can eat everything?? Oh my... when I had mine I would sip (real slowly) an ounce of broth and if I took in too much of that I would barf. I dunno... I would try my best not to eat except during the meal times. I drank gallons of water (an ounce at a time...LOL) so I guess I didn't really get a chance to eat much.
Hmm... maybe try some green tea and sip it. It helps curb my appetite some.
I did try to eat solid food like 10 days after my surgery and it hurt sooo bad. It was actually Christmas dinner that I was hosting for the family. Try taking care of 2 toddlers and cooking for 10, with your staples pulling and tugging...along with the babies wanting to jump on you! I only nibbled on a quarter sized piece of ham and mashed potatoes. Til this day I can't eat that!!
I had the no appetite thing too but I think that was because I knew that each time I ate I would either throw up or dump. I wish I had no appetite now... I eat what I can tolerate and sometimes those are not the best and healthiest choices for me.
Well... you have a good weekend. Hope things get better for you~~ I started painting ceramics and that got my mind off of eating..so did surfing the web!
Hi Kathy,
I don't think you are experiencing actual 'hunger' your new pouch has all sorts of new weird sensations to get used to. Mine did the exact same thing, I couldn't figure out why I thought I felt hungry after I ate. In a few weeks when things settled down, those sensations stopped. To this day I really don't experience much hunger. If the tummy rumbles and feelings bother you, sip some warm tea. I lived on it for about the first 3 months after surgery and it helped alot.
Don't worry about being able to eat everything, minimal problems are a happy thing! As soon as you get used to it...out of the clear blue sky something will make you Might take awhile, took me 3 months before I got sick on something.
As far as eating too much, just be sure you are measuring your food and you will have no problems. You are doing just fine. Very normal, you have just entered the "oh my God there is nothing wrong with me so there MUST be something wrong with me" post-op zone. Congrats and welcome, you're normal!

Kathy, Could it possibly be head hunger instead of real hunger. I did not start feeling hungry until about 3 months out. Please follow your Dr's eating plan. You can stretch your pouch and be able to eat to much . How much are you eating? I am almost a year out and I can eat about a cup. Write down what you eat and count calories. Sounds like you are unlucky like me. I am in the 15% that can eat anything. Keep yourself busy. I wish I could say I don't think about food but I do. I have to really watch what I eat and I am really trying to only eat 3 meals a day as my Dr. recommends. I have started to lose weight again since I stopped snacks. It is very inportant that you get in your protein and water. Do your best. See you lighter. Joanne Hammond Obesity help support group chapter leader.
I could and still do eat almost everything. Very little things have bothered the old pouch. I don't do the pushing of the sugar level. Not sure what would happen nor do I really want to know. But to tell you the truth I can eat. I could eat when I first started out too! It goes down and stays down. I do try and keep most of my food choices healthy ones. I don't think everyone gets ill from this surgery. I think a lot do....but there are a few that slip through just fine. Do remember in the beginning your stomach is healing so the nerve endings aren't as sharp as they should be so you may be able to eat more....but once the healing is done in about 4-6 weeks you will find the pouch being tighter will not allow you to put as much down it. If you find the cure for hunger pangs, pass it along to me okay! Glad it seems to be going well for you.
