Heading for Surgery.... RNY revision
Hello all,
I know I have not posted in a very long time but I do check out the site weekly. Anyway I think I have mentioned in the past about the problem with 2 ulcers since gastric bypass. I have been dealing with them for almost 2 years and last July when Dr Wynn was doing another EGD one of the ulcers were bleeding. (God was on my side that morning....Dr Wynn said they had just started bleeding that morning and I had been scheduled for the EDG for 2 months). Dr Wynn has tried everything possible with different meds and she had me see a pain specialist but on January 31st I had the 6th EGD and they are not improving So as the last resort a revision to my gastric bypass will be done. I will still be RNY which the word "revision" got me thinking I would not be. They will remove the area of my small puch that has ulcered and the top portion of the intestine so I will be basically another "new" gastric bypass" patient. A another month of pureed foods I had gained some weight with the ulcers (food is thing that for some reason calms the pain) so I have the chance of loosing that 20lbs I gained but I guess now I will worry about loosing too much weight (did I say that ???*L*). I found out today that my surgery will be on March 15th at 1pm. It is a 3 to 6 hour surgery with a 2 night hospital stay, and a 4 week recovery as long as it is completed without being opened up. I am scared about this surgery....I was not so scared with the actual gastric bypass but I an scared about this one.
I will never regret having gastric bypass but a lot of my friends and family blame this whole thing on the gastric bypass and when I tell someone I would do this all over again they look at me strangely and say I am "crazy". The gastric bypass did not cause these ulcers, it could be many things such as the ulcers being there in the past (EGDs were not done prior to surgery when I had it done in Sept of 2003) and the cut broke the cells or something, it can also be blamed on smoking, certain foods, ect.
Anyway I just thought I would tell you all about this.
Peace! Hope
Good Luck Hope,
I know what you mean by food being the only thing that helps with the pain. Before surgery I would get episodes that made me feel like I was going to get sick but if I ate something I felt better. ( this was my problem) I'll be thinking about you and sending lots of Prayers and postive thoughts your way.
Sandy
I just wanted to say that I hope everything works out for you. I moved from Delaware last June, hoping to find better healthcare in the Atlanta area. Unfortunately, all I have found are more doctors *****fuse to treat me due to having several surgeons operating on me. It wasn't my choice to have emergency surgeries and didn't have much choice. Now I am trying to find a surgeon who will do a revision of my surgery and repair a double hernia. I have chronic pain... and no relief unless on an IV pain med. I feel like there's a huge charley horse type of pain in my abdomen and its horrendous at times. They say its adhesions... a hernia... colitis... but no one seems to know for sure.
I don't think that you are crazy for wanting to go through the surgery again. If I could find a surgeon I would be there NOW! I am planning on moving back to the DE/MD area in the future. If anyone knows of any surgeons who actually do revisions and have good success, please please pass on that information.
Again, good luck with your revision and I hope you have a speedy recovery!!
