Nifty Little Portion Control Idea
Not sure how many of you can or choose to eat bread. I do and for the most part have no problems with it as long as I don't overdo it. A little trick I discovered is to use the ****tail size bread. You can usually find it in front of the deli area in the grocery store. I have used rye, pumpernickle and sourdough.
The bread weighs in at aprox 1/2 oz per slice and is denser than regular fluffy bread. I put a little butter on them and make grilled ham and cheese. breaking a slice of deli cheese into 4 fits perfectly. They look cute too....which amuses me I had 2 of them for lunch today.
I'm thinking they would make excellant little panini style sandwiches on a George Foreman grill and with a little thought you could do really interesting appetizer sized food for a party or get together...sort of tapas style. Maybe have an assortment of ingredients and do a pick your own combo thing.
Happy sammichin'!

Man, I have been wanting a grilled cheese sandwich something terrible. I am still on pureed foods though. I love your idea, and will try it when I am allowed to eat regular food. I hope when I see Dr. Wynn on 2/24 (1 mo. after surgery), she will let me go on soft foods. I am so tired of pureed!!! Although I must admit that Karen made a wonderful beef stew today and pureed some for me. It was MMM MMM GOOD!!!

I'll have to try that. Regular bread makes me feel Iky so I just avoid it. I can however eat crackers & stuff like that. I LOVE to make grilled cheeses using this Middle Eastern Flat Bread that I find at Janssens (I also make a fantastic chip using butter & Cavanders Greek Spice). I just slap a piece of cheese between 2 pieces of the bread. Put it in the toaster oven on the med toasting setting. Wala! Grilled cheese sandwich with the flavor of bread but not quite so filling!!! It's not a Pita, it's a flat bread with no pockets. Very thin. Can be baked/toasted into a chip.
