Mock Reality Check
Yes I did a mock interview with someone that did not know me....My story and resume didn't fair so well. I guess I have always known the truth of my experience was not so good if you want to move to another level in life. I need to finish school and I have procrasinated on that because of funds. I know alot of Company's won't even look at my resume without having the BS. I have a lot of credits to do before I can say its in my hands. The woman that interviewed me also stated that the job changes I made did not fair well. It didn't show committment or interest for too long. I did stay a few years and all my jobs with the exception of the last one....It was a very hard pill to swallow yesterday. But I manage to swallow it and now its time to recreate the resume and figure out the direction I want to follow. That was another thing she did not see on my resume....What is my goal in life. What do I want to be. I have been asking myself that question for a very long time. I guess I have always been a reactionary person. Its probably part of the reason that I weighed so much to. Now that I got this slapped on me I have to process out how I will determine what I want to do when I grow up. What is my passion in life. There really hasn't been a job in a very long time that I would say I loved....The only one was the System coordinator position which was great but I could not find another one at that time and things changed and I stepped backward to the Adm world. Now I am trying to get out of it...and well its just not working. My goal this weekend while it snows is to come up with a game plan. Has anyone else been like this? What did you do to realize what you want to be when you grew up? I do believe this was a good exercise for me. Now I have to make a plan to move forward.

Hi Debbie,
I certainly can relate to your situation. I was in transition many years ago and I found that there are many wonderful resources out there to help you find what it is you truly want to be when you grow up. I found reading "What Color Is My Parachute?" written by Richard Nelson Bolles to be very helpful. Other tools that are helpful: Personality tests -- try Myers Briggs Type Indicator (career). You can take the test online or go to one of the Colleges or Universities in the area. I know the U of D used to administer this test. Also try online: The Princeton Review.com website and MAPP.com (Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential). I wish you well in your journey of discovery.............Keep us posted!
I rarely post but I always lurk!

get your GED...at any local community college.......when you resume is weak in certain area's ......you can create a last page.....call it goals and accomplishments using real life accomplishments and what you are about....i have read many resumes and i always like the one's that were not scripted and were real.....the thought is it will be the last thing they read and sometimes if you can catch their attention it might make the first pages of lack of job experience a mute issue....be creative and make it something that a person will not read one line and toss...you need to captivate them quickly
I got the Diploma...My issue is the Bachelors Degree. I don't think I even have enough credits for an Associates...not like any one really hires on them. Most of the large companies what the Bachelors. I am toying with a paragraph call goals...Not sure what they are right now but I do have to get my head out of the sand and start to plan something. I will keep your idea in mind...Thanks
Hey Debbie,
I understand just how you feel because I too am looking for a career change because I have outgrown my current position which I have had for the last six years. I decided I will go back to school to get my BS in Organizational Management with a minor in Human Resources Management at Wilmington College and hopefully I can get started next month if everything goes as planned with my finances. Once I complete my degree my goal is to work on starting my own business to help young women to reach for their goals and to help them build self pride, and self esteem. I wish someone had taken me under their wing at a young age to help me become more self confident but since I am still alive and kicking I try to work on myself a little everyday. Take care and hope to see you soon.
