Anyone who had Dr. Peters for LAP Band please help!
Hi!
I am scheduled for LAP Band surgery on February 21st with Dr. Peters. The thing is, I am very anxious about the fact that he has only done 40 bands. I'm sure he's an outstanding surgeon and I like him, but I have to admit I am very nervous about how light on banding experience he is. I posted about it on my other message board and everyone there is not reassuring at all, saying it takes a minimum of 100 surgeries for the learning curve and I should find someone else. I really want this surgery, but I also want to feel comfortable with my surgeon's experience level. If I could hear some good recommendations and people who had Dr. Peters as their surgeon who are happy with their bands, I'm sure it would make me feel alot better. I am flagging this as urgent priority only because of the time-sensitive nature (my surgery is in 11 days.) Thanks in advance !!!
I did not have him for LAP Band but I did for gastric bypass and at that time he had only done 100 of those. I know for gastric bypass there are always 2 surgeons in the OR. Ask him. I'm sure there will be a more experience surgeon there as well.
As for a surgeon I have found Dr. Peters to be one of the most compassionate I have come across and I've had more surgeries than I care to admit to.
Ask him those questions, tell him your concerns. I know he will put you at ease

Jane, The Doctor's at CHRIAS do the surgery in pairs. Who else will be assisting Dr. Peter's? Rest assured that between the 2 Dr's they have the experience that is needed to take care of any situations that will arise. I had Dr Irgau with Dr. Wynn assisting. I have 2 friends that just had lapband and Dr. Peters and Dr. Irgau attended to them both. They are both doing great. Nervousness is to be expected. Try to remain focused and positive. Which hospital will you be at? Christiana or St. Francis? Remember to bring chapstick. Your lips get pretty dry. ((HUGS)) Elissa
