Why am I worried?

Hi Friends, Ok, here is a really crazy thing. I am really worried that I have not gotten sick. I know this sounds loopy, but so far I have been able to tolerate everything I have eaten or drank. I am still on pureed foods, but have had potatoes, won ton soup, cottage cheese, meat, and even chicken. All pureed of course. I have had occasion to feel really full and some slight problems with my bowels, but nothing major so far. This worries me because I don't want to be one of those people who can eat whatever she wants. I want to get sick if I eat something with sugar or too much fat. It will keep me honest. Also, even though I am only almost 2 weeks post-op, I am eating about 5 oz. of food now instead of 4. I am getting my walks in as the dr. ordered, but probably not enough water. Should I be worried??? How is it going for the rest of you? Thanks! Rosa

I had the same feelings...don't worry as long as you are following the doctors rules you will be fine. I can eat everything without any problems and you just have to limit yourself if you can tolerate sugar like I can and watch what you eat . You are doing great. Keep up the good work. Ellen

Hi Rosa, I would be worried about you if you weren't worried! lol...everything you have described is COMPLETELY normal for the vast majority of us. You will probably experience a plethora of of fears and concerns during the first 6 months or so. It's good to be aware of the change your body and mind has undergone. No matter how prepared we are, I think most of us experience this to some degree. I remember not being sick and having a vague fear of maybe it didn't really work because I didn't feel anything beyond the small discomforts that you describe. LOL that all changed the day I was in a huge hurry, ate some cottage cheese too fast before I left home and ended up entertaining some construction workers with my cottage cheese barfing when I had to pull over on Old Baltimore Pike! Some days you will be able to eat more than others...this is the ever changing nature of the surgery. Most of us become almost hyperaware of what we put in our mouths at some point. Things then normalize again. I am almost 2 years out and I have days when I say wow, seems like I could eat alot, then I stop and think about what I did eat and it's not all that much. Some days I get full very quickly with just a few bites...this can vary from meal to meal in the same day. Journal your food at this point, it's very important that you have that record to look at when you're concerned. Sometimes I will journal for a few days just to make sure I'm in line with where I should be. Just keep following the rules, measure your food, eat by the clock and get all your protein. You will be just fine and in a few months you will telling a new post-op the same thing. Welcome to your new life, my bet is that you're going to do just fine! Linda

Attention!!!! YOU'RE NORMAL!!! LOL We all go thru this!. I'm one of those that can eay anything I want and not get sick. What this surgey gave me is PORTION CONTROL! And the fact that I MUST eat every 3 hours or I feel really crappy. I can eat whatever I want in very small amounts (not that I actually EAT whatever I want). I'm almost 7 months out and can only eat maybe 4oz of solid food (meats) at one time. Soups I can eat about 8oz in 45 minutes. Boy Oh Boy, don't let me eat that "1 bite too much"!!! Hork City! My weight loss has been steady except for a 1 month Plateu from the middle of December to the Middle of January. I am very happy with this as I am back to being an avid skier. I ski every weekend, all day long only stopping for lunch. Being able to eat anything I want in moderation is good because this means I can tolerate Trail mix. I get hungry more often on the slopes so I keep a little bag of trail mix in my pocket. That way I can eat a handful while on the lift. I get the protein from the nuts, carbs from the dried fruit and the instant energy from the candy (choc chips or M&M's) in it. I still watch what I eat but I can still enjoy my food too. I have also heard that this can change down the road. I've spoken to people who are 3 & 4 years out, never dumped on anything, now certain things that they were able to eat before make them dump. Out bodies are constantly changing.

Hi Rosa. I too am feeling the same way! I read the posts of others and it seems like they can barely eat and I have no problem getting in 2 oz. of chicken or a half cup of soup. I've been measuring and everything. I just hope I'm doing everything right. I think it's normal for us to worry, because I've been worrying the hell outta myself for the past week about eating. Glad everything is going good for you! April
