Menus & Advice
Hello everyone as you know I am on my way to joining the loosing side and want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. I would like some input on menus for the first two weeks after..second two weeks after and so forth. Is there a website that has menus, hints, etc for after the surgery help. Where can I get the vitamins, etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Did anyone do a will prior to surgery? Is this something that is recommended?
Thanks
Kathy
I bought the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, and it is awesome. I went onto www.borders.com and ordered from there, it was cheaper there then in the store. They had receipes and advise and all kinds of good hints. They go through and tell you what will happen during the surgery, the hospital, the first month, etc. I highly reccommend this book. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery also. We are in for the ride of our lives.

Some help....
Start eating early (around 7AM) and eat a meal approximately every 3 hours....beware a meal now is not the same as after WLS!
I had to do clear liquids for day 1 and 2 and they could be broth, SF jello, diluted fruit juices, SF beverages, sips of water. You would have these combinations for all your meals. My diary says I was lucking to get two ounces of broth, and jello at the same time. I did 64 oz of water most definitely. I didn't start protein shakes until day 3.
Full Liquid phase started for me on day 3. These phase consisted of foods such as reduced fat cream soup made with skim milk, blenderized soups, SF pudding, SF custard, SF pudding pops, skim milk, Carnation Instant Breakfast No sugar Added, SF Yogurt **** and Fit Creamy is good)
By Day 17 I was about to go to the famous blenderized diet.... Scrambled eggbeaters pureed, custard, tuna salad (1/4 cup)....lots of water...This menu would give you 39 grams of protein.
In the beginning its hard to get to your 60 grams minimum requirement without the protein shakes. I thought that the profect in the test tube was not a bad tasting one and only 3 oz in the tube which makes it really good for newbies. You get 25 grams of protein in 3 oz of stuff.
As far as vitamins....Flintstones chewables are good. I use Optisource from Walgreens but its pricey. You get about the same stuff as flintstones...I just like the taste of them better....Calcuim citrate you can get in powder form at Vitamin shoppe. That too is pricey but in the beginning swallowing those horse pills is not as easy as you think....Trust me I tried it.
Ideas with the protein supplements....
1 cup of skim milk, 4 ice cubes, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 scoop of protein powder (vanilla or chocolate)
1 cup of skim milk, 1 packet of sugar free hot cocoa and 1 scoop of protein powder.
1 cup of skim milk, 1/2 banana, a few strawberries, and 1 scoop of protein powder.
1 cup of milk, 1/2 banana, 1 tbsp of peanut butter and 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder.
Susan Marie's book has a lot of recipes in it....I didn't follow too many of them but some I did use....
I also experimented with things....refried beans and cheese...was good after awhile. I had terrible gas pains the first time I did them..I had to grow back into that taste.
I highly don't recommend cream of wheat with peanut butter.....Too thick of a consistency and if you can't drink with your food you are left really dry mouth!
