More on the CHRIAS/Christiana/PMRI saga

Hello everyone!! I saw Dr. Irgau this morning and was talking to him about my after care, and the topic of surgery at Christiana came up. He said they are still doing the surgeries there, but they are scaling back considerably. We went on discussing PMRI, and he was telling me that part of the problem was that they (Christiana Care) was really difficult to deal with, and they were also experiencing program problems with PMRI. He said that many patients felt that PMRI was really an unnecessary expense (and a large one to boot). I don't know about all of you, but I tend to agree that PMRI was a little pricey for what you got. Don't get me wrong the Life Skills classes were invaluable, but were they worth $1200, no. I have really felt that the follow-up care at PMRI wasn't needed (at least for me), Dr. Monsaert (who I've seen twice) is extremely nice, but honestly, if I was experiencing any problems, I would not call him, I'd be calling Dr. Irgau. I've seen the nutritionist there too one time since my surgery, and it was just ok.....she reviewed my journals and gave a few pointers, but beyond that it was over. For me it was a long drive to have a 5-10 min. office visit. Perhaps this is the beginning of a possible re-development of the program at Christiana/PMRI?? who knows. We'll just have to watch and see. Dr. Irgau did indicate that all post-ops will still get the continued aftercare from PMRI, it's just the new surgeries that will have difficulty. Hope you all have a great day!!!!

Thanks Cathy. I see Irgau today at 3 and was going to ask him about this, but it seems like you covered everything. It makes sence now.

Hi Cathy, How about St. Francis? Please don't tell me there is anything going on there. I am getting my clearances for surgery and gee that is the last thing I want to hear. Thank you for any clarification Kathy

Cathy, You mentioned that the surgeries will still be done at Christiana. Right? But the aftercare is not going to be there anymore for the ones who havent had surgery yet? If I got this right does that mean all of us who will have surgeries later on will have to find different aftercare? They wouldnt leave us hanging would they? Sharon Its a good thing we got this board!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for the info Cathy. I just had my surgery done at Christiana, and felt I got very good care. I don't like, however, having delt with PMRI. The nutrition class was 6 classes squeezed into 3, and I don't feel I got much out of them. I do agree that Dr. Monsaert was very nice, but I have an excellent endocronologist here. I plan on canceling my future appts. there. I think the price was outrageous, and the fact that if we don't jump their hoops we would'nt get cleared for surgery. I can see the nutrition classes, but why did they make me see their endo, when I told them I have a wonderful one here? $$$$$$$$$! Thanks, Rosa
