Help Please - sugar low
I am away from home and am having a problem. Could really use some
advice.
today I started shaking pretty bad and my step sister said I needed to
check my sugar ... She checked it and it was 67. I did drink a little
juice and then ate some cheese. My level was back up to 120 pretty
quickly. However, I have felt bad all afternoon. I am not there now
but feel as if my sugar has dropped a bit again but can't check it right now. . I have never had
sugar problems before, even pre-op. I am not sure how we as RNY
should deal with a sugar drop? Any and all helpgreatly appreciated.
I am not home and have no access to files I have put back, but know
that I had some information on sugar lows post op??? Obviously I will be seeing the doc when I get home. Thanks for all help! btw i won't have access to a computer for long ,,, so please forgive me for not responding to your help

Tammy,
I have had problems with that as well. I've been in WalMart..and had to hold up a post..so I didn't pass out. Shaking, faintness etc. My problem was the same..and the doctor said I wasn't eating enough...or should I say often enough.
Get it checked out...I just ate protein..and actually a couple of peanut m and m's (I know not a good thing, but it worked).
I know when I travel..I truly don't eat as much..and then on top of that your normal schedule is off..so..you probably have a pattern of eating you don't realize..and getting off of it..just a little..your sugar plumments. Have some protein snacks with you..if you start feeling shaky..I know it happens pretty fast.
If you ever make it out here to Texas...we need to meet up!
Hugs,
Kimberly
Hope you are feeling better today. Sorry I could not help with this problem...But sending you a (((HUG))) to help you along your way. This is a good thing to watch out for since I do travel and I know I get off schedule alot. I even mess up on weekends when we run alot. I know its not good for me and you have documented why its not good.
Thanks and I do hope you are doing better.

Well Tammy, Nothing like being a day late and a dollar short. Sorry I didn't see the post before, but just to let you know that this has happened to me on a couple of occasions. Don't know what caused it on all the occasions, although one time it was after I had eaten something that had some hidden sugars (I could have foound them if I really wanted to) and a crash happened after a high on the sugar.
The best thing to do is like you would if you hadn't had WLS. Get the sugar up as quickly as possible. Good time to enjoy that juice, or a piece of candy. Then eat some protein. But it up quickly.
It's not fun.
Hope all is well with you. We need to get the Reality check going again. It really helps.
God bless,
Faye
