Hello Everyone. I got a question I just read a pamplet that said folks who have had the surgery should not eat foods high in fiber. ??????. I thought high fiber would be a good thing. Needless to say I am going to do more research on the subject. I just wanted to know if anyone knows this to be true and what would the effects of a high fiber food would be?

Fiber is tough on the pouch. I think when you are first out of surgery you may not want to do alot of it. But further out it does not seem to be a problem to some people....Its depends on the person. Debbie

Hey Leonard, You need to check with your surgeon and nutritionist to get their advice. From my "non-professional" perspective, I have had a very high fiber diet since the day after my surgery back in Oct'2003. I consulted with my nutritionist, primary physician, and surgeons and added oatmeal, flax meal, and fibercon to my diet. Without fiber you are guaranteed to have a lot of constipation, and other possible complications to the colon. But check with your nutritionist... Rob
