got 'sick'
I got banded on Thursday. The gas pains are finally starting to get better. I tried to get some protein drink in this morning. Well, I don't know if I sipped too much, or too fast, or it just didn't work with my band... a little bit later, I got that awful feeling you talk about 'pb-ing' and got hot, sweaty, and knew then that this was not going to stay down. It hurt so for a short time, but once it was over, I felt a lot better. I seem to have a lot of postnasal drip, and I feel nauseous really bad. Tell me this is going to pass (SOON) please. I don't like this feeling. All I have gotten down today is water. I was planning on going to work tomorrow, but this doesn't look too good. I was getting some creamy soup in the past couple days, but now everything 'smells' to me and makes me feel more sick.
Hey Patricia,
You just got banded on Thursday and are trying to go to work tomorrow? In my humble opinion that's just too soon! You probably drank too fast when you got sick and right now you don't want to get sick because your insides are still healing. Post-nasal drip on a somewhat empty stomach could be making you feel nauseous but I'm no doctor. Take small sips and take your time. The first few weeks it's really hard to adjust your thinking. It used to take me 15 mins or more to drink a cup of liquid. This will pass, but be careful. If you get sick again, pls call Dr. Wynn's office and talk to somebody there. Good luck to you!

Patricia,
All I can say is "you must be superwoman". Going back to work, already? I am not familiar enough with the lap band but that does seem pretty soon.
There is a tremendous learning curve with WLS. Even though you take the effort to get educated and familiar with how things will be, everyone's body is different. It is trial and lots of error for awhile. Some things will make you sick and others will make you hot and sweaty. But keep trying.
It is important that you get your fluids in so keep working at it. Dilute the protein if you need to. I used to use a shot glass to know that I was drinking an ounce at a time. That would help. You just do not want to get dehydrated either.
Another thing that happens is one week something won't agree with you and another week it will and vice versa. Chicken was the hardest on me for months. Seafood, whether it be shrimp, crab (the best on my pouch) or fish was the easiest. Then lo and behold, last week (18 months post op) I got fish stuck and had to heave it. So be patient and know that it will all work out. Just keep the fluids moving.
God bless,
Pastor Faye
Patricia, How do you feel????? I did not have lap band, but from going to the lap band support group, it sounds like you are experiencing dumping. EAT SLOWER. Put things in a covered container and sip, that way you won't smell it. When you get that feeling, chances are you ate it tooooo fast or you might have eaten too much. Are you measuring it. Go with 1 ounce then try 2. It should take you 20-30 min to eat the 2 ozs. It'll get cold on you. It will get better. Promise. Ask for help from some of our lap banders. They can really give you some tips. Each day it'll get better. Hang on this'll be a bumpy ride for a bit. It will smooth out soon for you. Stay focused and positive. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Patricia, How about if you try popsicles and you can try to put jello in the freezer until the point of slushy. You need to get your protein in and if you just "sip'' or freeze the protein and suck on it from ice cube trays maybe that will work. I still get sick even on soft foods if I eat too fast even if I ''think'' its not fast. My body knows more then my head apparently. I took off work for 4 weeks but then I do lifting at work. Hope things get better for you. Take care....Sharon
