Wednesday Roll Call
Good morning Delawaeans!!! How is everyones week going? Mine has been busy. I am really trying to break this platue. Last week I lost 3/4 of a lb. The first loss in 4 weeks. Something has to give. I really want to lose 10 lbs before December 12th when I return to the Dr. Is this realalistic? I don't know but I am really trying to stay on track and hope for the best. Hope all is well on their way to finishing their Christmas shopping. If you missed the black friday sale Walmart in Rehobeth has just about all the sales items still for sale. Apple Electric on Rt # 24 has their decorations up again this year and you can tune into your Radio and watch the lights dance to the tune. Real Cool for the kids to watch. O.K. I like it too. See you lighter. Joanne
Hey Joanne,

I was at Rehobeth outlets last saturday we had a great time, I want to go back to the coach outlet I want a coach bag, I guess I will wait til after Christmas.
Take care,
Dana
Joanne,
We had our surgery around the same time, and I was having the same problem. In fact, I even called Dr Wynn's office crying 3 weeks ago because I had been on a plateu for almost 4 weeks, then had gained 4 lbs. When I finally talked to someone there it was a reality check...she said, "come on Joni, 4 pounds?" She did talk me through it, and I'm glad I called, but I understand your frustration. I'll tell you what I did to break the plateau, use it if you like.
First, I stopped weighing myself for a while. I had gotten so obsessed that I was weighing myself every day, or every time I was near a scale. Now I only weigh myself once every week or two. It significantly relieved the stress I was feeling about it. I also will not step on every scale I see. The drs at CHRIAS do not see patients on Mondays or Tuesdays, so you can walk in there any time on those days and weigh yourself.
Second, increase your non-caloric, decaf, non-carbonated fluid intake. I don't really like to drink water, but I love the flavored waters from Aquafina, Dasani and Fruit2o. Before my plateau I would get to the evening time and tell myself that 45 or 50 oz was good enough, it just isn't. Make sure you get a minimum of 64 oz per day.
Third, mind your starch intake. Yes, you need some carbs for energy, and you can get good carbs other ways (fruits & vegetables), but my body can really only take 2-3 servings (1 serving = 1 slice of bread or 1 sm potato or 1/2 cup of cereal) per day and still lose weight.
Fourth, make sure you are getting your pre-op protein levels in every day. I received conflicting information from two different PMRI nutritionists, Daneille said that we were never to lower our protein goals from our pre-op goal (mine is 90g per day), and Sharon told me to lower mine at my first post-op appointment. I decided to ask Dr. Wynn, and I'm glad I did, my 90g goal is for the rest of my life.
Fifth, and this one is the hardest. Exercise. Whatever you are doing, if you're not losing weight, it's probably not enough. You'll need to increase your exercise. Now, I hate the gym as much as the next girl, so I find ways to increase my exercise without it feeling like exercise. I recently went on a business trip to NYC, and instead of taking cabs door to door, I walked and subway'd whenever I could. Picking out our Christmas tree, instead of going to a lot I found a tree farm and hiked the hills and acres for a couple of hours looking for the perfect tree. My favorite thing, shopping, I spend as much time shopping as I possibly can...that way I get plenty of walking in, and some new clothes to fit my new size 16 body. I added some treadmill or recumbant bike work in, but didn't make that my primary method for getting exercise...and it's been working great.
Finally...Eat. I find that if I am not eating at regular intervals, and I let myself get out of the food/fluid schedule, I stop losing weight. In fact, when I think I'm overeating is usually when I have the most significant weight loss. If you've gotten out of journaling your food/fluid intake, start again, if even only for a little while, it will help you stay on track.
I busted my plateau 2 weeks ago, and have lost 10 lbs since then, even over Thanksgiving. I am now into the century club, and 3 lbs from onederland.
Hang in there Joanne, don't stress yourself about it, the weight will come off. It's easy to say now that I'm on the other side of this plateau, and I know I'll struggle when I get to the next one, but do your best to keep your chin up!

Hi there everyone. I am 2 weeks Post-op here and feel great. I have also lost 17lbs which helps with the great feeling. I started the gym going with Elissa yesterday and today with riding the bike and walking around the track. I even slipped my legs into the whirlpool to relax since I'm not able to get in a pool yet but soon. Take care all...Sharon
