Dreaded Hair Loss
Unfortunately the loss is starting Has anyone used any Biotin Shampoos or any other products that they know helps? I know there is a vitamin to take but I really don't want to take any more pills than I have to. I hate to take pills and that was one of the motivating factors in my having the surgery in the first place. I was taking over 13 pills a day and 4 shots of insulin. I am down to 2 pills and no insulin and I would love to keep it that way. I heard that Nexxus makes some products for thining hair. Anyone try them yet? If so, what were your results and where did you buy them?
I know this is temporary and I AM NOT COMPLAINING...I would do the surgery over in a heartbeat.
Thanks,
Ellen

I found a biotin shampoo that helped me with the sheading.....I used the Nioxin, and I found a cheaper one from Vitamin World that I have been using the last month or so. Same results less $. Closest Vitamin World is in Rehoboth Beach but you can go online and search for it.
I hate pills too!

Ellen, My hair started falling out around 3 months out. I am 6 months out now and have alot of short hair growth. I got my hair cut today to blend in the new growth. I love the new do and the hair dresser said I will have all my hair back in about 3 months. He said it will be full and looks like it is coming back in curly. I had natural curly hair as a child. I didn't use anything for the hair loss and mine came out by handfulls. Mostly on top. He also told me to dye my hair a shade darker and it makes it look fuller. Good luck and hang in there. It will stop and come back in nicer. See you lighter. Joanne
Hi Ellen. The Nioxin products are available and help promote new hair growth. Nothing will prevent the loss. It can start as early as 2 months and usually stops about 8 months. The good news is it will stop and come back in a few more months. I get the Nioxin products at discount because I am a licensed Cosmotologist. If you are interested, let me know and I will be glad to purchase it for you or anyone else that wants it. There are 3 products to use. Cleanser, scalp treatment and Active treatment. Can come as a kit or bought in larger bottles. After a month or so you can feel all the new growth coming in. It does work and I still use it at 18 months out. I also use a claryfing shampoo 1 time a wk to remove the cholerine buildup because I go in the pool 5 days a week. During the summer I used Redkin UV protection products so the sun wouldn't bleach & dry out my hair.
I have been blessed with good hair genes and I'll do anything to keep it. in good healthy shape. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Debbie, I was going to look at the site to evaluate the product, but was unable to open it. Is the correct addy: [email protected]? Is it available locally or is there shipping costs also?? Thanks for the info.
I have been a hairdresser for 38 years and to my knowledge nothing will stop hair loss. Unfortunately we have to deal with it and do all we can do is try to promote new growth. Thats why I started the Nioxin products 3 months prior to WLS surgery. The hair loss starts about 3 months post surgery so I rationalized that if I started early I'd have a jump with new hair coming in. It worked for me. I did loose major hair, but it was a good trade off for the results I got to become healthy and my hair did return.
