Hi all, I am 4 months out of surgery and am really experiencing hair loss bad. I have lost 82 lbs. and weigh less now then I did at age 12. Has anyone else had this problem so early? Please help !!!!! Also is there any support groups in Kent or Sussex Counties. I really need to attend for I am still full of questions. I had my surgery at Washington Hospital Center by Dr. Kirkpatric and know of no one else in Delaware who had it there. They have a support group once a month but they all fall on my weekend to work. See all lighter. Joanne

Joanne, I had my surgery in Havre de Grace Maryland. The support group meetings there are the second Tuesday of each month at 7PM. It's a long drive for me from Dover, but the meetings are really worth the trip. I heard there is also supposed to be a support group meeting in Camden DE, but don't have the dates/time/location. I will research that information and post. It will be closer for both of us! I also am experiencing hair loss. It's coming out like crazy. I go for my 3 month post op check up tomorrow and will ask the doctor about it again. We spoke about hair loss at the last support group meeting and no one had any answers. The responses I got were "it will grow back" - even the nurse had no response. I didn't know if I was getting enough protein since meat is not agreeing with me. The nurse said it's all due to hormones and the rapid weight loss. As you level off, your body chemistry will change and the hair will grow back. Anyway, I'm frustrated too and wasn't really happy with the responses. I'm 71 pounds gone at 3 months. Maybe we can get together at the Camden meetings! Jean

PROTEIN, PROTEIN , PROTEIN, That is what they have been saying at the support group I have attended in chester. they also said about asking your dr. about supplements (ex. Biotin) I have been taking it even though I haven't had surgery yet. I figure I can't hurt. they say protein helps you heal faster and helps with your hair loss. Hope this helps... Sandy

Ladies, You are right on target. Most of us who did experience hair loss did so at around the 3-5 month post surgery time frame. Good news is it stops soon. Get LOTS of protein in. That is extremely important. Biotin helps some and Nioxin (I think that is the name) shampoo has helped others. It will grow back and be nice and shiny and healthy if you get lots of protein. Best wishes, God bless, Mama 14 months out and using chemicals on my hair once again. Just did a perm and colored several weeks ago as well.

Hi Joanne, I make sure I get enough protien but I also take zinc once a day. It seems to help. Beth

Beth, I take Zinc-sulfate. My Dr. doesn't beleive in protein shakes but I have started using low carb protein bars as a meal replacement. They have 22 grams of protein. I also eat soy protein crisp. Tomorrow I am going to try to start drinking 2 glasses of skim milk a day. I read where this helps you get in 16 more grams of protein and get better weight loss.I will be 5 months out of surgery on the 5th and have lost about 93 lbs. Can't waite to see that 100 lb loss. Hair is still falling out bad. No regrets to having surgery . See you lighter. Joanne
