My Interview...

First off, gotta say Thank you to Rosemary publicly... she is a sweetheart and a lovely person inside and out. She took care of my little Alyssa while I went for my second interview today and managed to have my daughter begging for her to come back! Alyssa is one of the most shy girls on the planet and is a cling-on to her mama... WAY TO GO ROSEMARY! At the interview, I had to wait a few minutes for the gentleman to be available because he was just back from vacation today. Anyway, we went and talked for a while about the job, what my preferences are as far as in office or field work, and my preference is for desk work because I really can't handle the physical nature of constant site work... everything I want fits with everything they need. We were chit chatting a bit about the website and how it was complete with information about their benefits package except for details that wouldn't be needed unless an offer was made (I said that) and he replied with "Well, we want to make you an offer, but since I don't make those decisions I have to speak with Dwight and we will work out the details and get back to you this week." Yippie! I don't have it officially, but it sounds like it is mine! They were thrilled with the references they reached, and Dwight managed to ask me about my daughter (he couldn't reach me last week right away because my daughter was in the hospital so when I called him back I explained that to him so he would know I wasn't trying to blow him off). He even told me that he's praying for my daughter, said it as though I were already a co-worker rather than an applicant, if that makes sense. He was talking with me as though I was soon to be part of the team, not as though I was a nervous bundle of energy hoping for a job offer! It looks pretty good here, actually, very good. It's just a matter of what the numbers are (although I'm not that picky) and the start date, etc... That reminds me, he asked me when I'd be able to start. So, I told him that could possibly be tricky to work out, told him that I am scheduled for surgery on Sept 1, but if they want me to start before that and then take time off to recover and return to work when I can I would do that, or I could start after it if they preferred that. He suggested getting paid while recovering by doing the prep work from home during the recovery period... Said he could send me home with the codes (engineering lingo and rules to be followed) that I will need to learn before working directly on the projects and that I could read them and be compensated while recovering as easily on a couch or in a bed as I could while sitting at a desk... seems this is going to be a very nice place to work! I'm not yet bouncing off of walls, but as soon as the official offer is made, I'm going to be, and watch out, I don't even think my daughter's health can get me down. I'm gonna prove to them how great I can be and that they didn't make a mistake on me. I need this opportunity! Keep praying, I don't have the job yet! And pray for Alyssa still, she's 5, her tests are showing signs of becoming more normal, however we still don't know what is causing this and she still needs to see a nephrologist. I really hope it's something that will correct itself! Hugs to all Rachel

That's terriffic Rachel! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. You have no idea how much of a boost getting a job will be to your self esteem. And who knows, after you loose some weight you might be able to go out to the field on occassion! Man, I was 130 pounds when I was a field tech. I really didn't start gaining until I plopped my ass at a desk and had to stay there all day. I used to be able to stop all work going on around me while wearing an oversized sweat-shirt, tight Levis, work boots, hard hat, safety glasses and a tool belt (of course construction workers ARE perv's LOL)! What fun I had. I was 1 of maybe 200 women on site out of about 3000 workers. I don't know if Dave told you or maybe you got the letter too but as of August 28 we will loose medical coverage at AI Hospital. I hoping that they can reach an agreement with BCBS before then because that's where I take Chelsea for her ADD therapy. So, whatever treatments Alyssa needs in the future you're going to have to either take her to Christiana Care or the Children's Hospital in Phila or Johns Hopkins in Baltimore or you'll have to pay for them out-of-pocket. Hi Dee... I know what you mean about being one of a few women on construction sites... and yes, those guys are major pervs! I loved every second of the tight jeans (and I wore tight Ts to go along with the tight jeans) At first the guys thought "cute, college aged eye candy" then they got to calling me "the *****" because I am smart and knew the stuff and caught their mistakes! LOL Such is the life of a woman in this industry! No I never got information about losing coverage at AI... that really stinks, I hope they will work something out with them because driving to philly is not really an option right now and Christiana doesn't have anyone specializing in pediatric nephrology. The only plus is that AI still has a contract with Medicaid and I will have coverage through them for at least another year so hopefully that will cover her testing!! Please keep me posted about AI and BCBS!! At least now I know why they were giving me grief about paying for Donny's counseling services! Hugs Rachel
