I'm stressing! :-(

I have 2 life skills classes left (1 is a make-up) and 2 drs appointments left...now misty is calling me to tell me that my insurance (BCBSofIL) might not approve because of the 12 month diet thing. I don't have much documentation of diets. I only tried stuff myself. I don't have a surgery date yet either. I feel really bad and so very stressed out. I can't sleep cause im worrying. I don't want to leave my house. I have had trouble with depression but was doing good...not I feel like i'm slipping back into that dark place again. My husband is not listening to me all the time...I feel like i'm alone in all of this. I want this surgery and i'm afraid that if i'm not approved for it I will just quit trying altogether. You guys are great on here listening to everyone and your words are encouraging. I could use some of that now. Sharon B

Sharon Check with your PCP, because if you've been to see him for other things, they weigh you and make notes about being over weight. That is what I used for my insurance co. I have Aetna. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie: My name is Rosemary. I posted on here yesterday with pretty much the same problem with Misty and being denied. My surgery date was today. I got a phone call yesterday at 9:45 from Misty telling me that CIGNA denied my claim (one day before surgery)! This was after I was on a liquid diet for two days, and the real kicker is that she had this information on Mon. I was told that CIGNA denied me because I was not on a weight loss program for 6 months. I have been working with Misty for a month getting letters and records from my primary Dr., when I came for my pre-opt appointment on 7-07 (one week before surgery) I was told that they did not have approval from CIGNA as of yet. When I got home I called CIGNA and they informed me that they had not recieved anything from Dr. Irgau's office. I can't help to think that Misty not sending my claim but a week before surgery is the reason that I was denied. I put a complant in to the Insurance Commissioner's office and will hear back from them tomarrow. I will keep you informed so you can fight them way before your surgery. Read my posting! Rosemary

Sharon, You are not alone ... so many of our regulars have posted and have dealt with delays but have went on to have extremely successful surgeries. The key here is to remain focused, don't give up, and if you find your surgery is delayed, use that time to your benefit YOU and research, research and research some more. We can never learn too much about this surgery. I know it can be hard, as I have watched many friends who have went through the same things, but you are going to get through this. You have others here who are going to do their best to help you get through this ... okay? Hugs, Tammy

Tammy....thanks so much for your encouragement. It means alot. I feel a little better. I just want this to be over. Not the surgery...just the waiting! I know i'll get through this. Some of the stress is also coming from trying to quit smoking....i have to....so things get a little tense! Thanks again Sharon B

The waiting on the insurance is the worst and then quiting smoking on top of it If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know. You are right, you will get through this but sometimes the ride can be rough. Hang in there! Hugs, Tammy

Sharon I'm so sorry to hear this. It is soooooo frustrating, I know. My surgical date was rescheduled four times. I was frantic. Three times because of red tape, one time because I switched dates with my sister (sooner) as I finally got through the redtape and was desperate to get this done before something else came up. In the end it all worked out for me. I think the only person who I know of that waited longer than me, was Dana. She's had her surgery too and doing wonderfully. Don't give up.... Dianne...thank you....i hope i get a date soon too. I went to my PCP and the girls there gave me copies of my medical files...theirs and my last PCP. There are some notes about weight loss attempts in the notes...i don't know if its enough but lets pray it is. My new PCP is great. I started seeing him in April and he suggest a special diet. Maybe thats it! I'm gonna take all of this to Misty and see what she can do. Thanks again.

Hi Sharon, You can read my profile and see what I had to go through to get approved. But, I never gave up. I will be praying that the pcp notes is all you need, mine were not consistant enough, so after 2 appeals, I decided to just do the 6 month doctor supervised diet, and then I was approved. I know it can get very depressing, but please know this you are never alone, we are here for you, anytime. Keep us posted on how you make out. Dana
