Hi! I'm new to this board, and was hoping to find a support group for Weight Loss surgeries in Delaware. I see that many of you have had the RNY & Lap Band, which are not what I chose (Duodenal Switch). Do you think that it would be ok if I attended the same group? Has anyone else in DE on this board had the DS? I haven't had the operation yet - waiting on insurance approval.

Welcome Bronwen This board and the meetings are for anyone who is interested. Please do post and attend meetings. I'm sure everyone would love to meet you. Duodenal Switch - interesting? I was very interested in this procedure, but it is not one that was offered by Dr Irgau through the CHRIAS group. And I had my mind made up that he would be my surgeon so I chose to research GBP & Lap Band. I wound up going with gastric bypass and have no regrets. Who is doing your surgery? Where is your surgery going to be done? I'd love to hear more about it. Best of luck on your journey and by all means, do post and attend meetings. Look at older posts, especially by Elissa Hart who posts all the different meetings and times and locations.

Thanks for the welcome! Dr. Michel Gagner in New York is doing my surgery (fingers crossed for insurance approval). I chose it after researching all of the WLS and speaking to colleagues who have had different types (one RNY and one DS) of surgeries. My PCP first recommended I see Dr. Wynn, a colleague of Dr. Irgau, but I didn't want the Lap band or the RNY, so she's writing the letter for Dr. Gagner. It'll be a hassle going up to New York for follow-up instead of Christiana, but it's only 2 hours in the car and I don't mind driving if I get what I want. Thanks for telling me where to look for the support group. As lovely as the internet is, it's nice to actually see people sometimes!

Bronwen, The support groups here in Delaware are for anyone. Our surgeons might be different, but our journeys are very similar. One word of caution, you need to follow your surgeons advice. Each one can differ a little and this can be confusing for folks. I'll see that you get the current list of meetings with contact names so that you can meet some of the folks and get more informed. Welcome to the Delaware boards. I think you'll find the info very useful. Elissa Hart

Bronwen, Welcome and congrats on finding the best fitting surgery for you. I have a couple of friends who are DS'ers (not local) and are extremely pleased with their decision. You have already received all the information on the local support groups ... hope to meet you in person soon! Hugs, Tammy
