OK Everybody, Don't laugh!..........

I ended up in the emergency room last night with....OK Promise me you won't laugh.......................Hot Flashes! I'd had a big day yesterday. Hubby took me to the mall and trotted me around cause it was too hot outside, then we picked up my Step-daughter in Middletown and took her to test-drive a stick-shift vehicle (she's hardly ever driven a stick before), (found out hubby is NOT a good stick-shift driving teacher so I had to take over). Then we came home and I cooked dinner for everyone while I sipped my Isopure. So by 8pm I was exhaused and went to bed. I woke up about 9:15 hotter n hell and beet red. Hubby took my temperature and it registered 100. He said that's it I'm taking you to the hospital. And away we went. By the time I got to Christiana and checked in my temperature went down to 99.6. I went out to the wititing room and during that time had another hot flash. Got all clammy, face all red. Finally when I got back to the exam room, they took my vitals again and I was fine. The spoke to Dr, Peters and he told them that I was fine to go home, but to just monitor my temperature and come back if it reached 101.5. Hubby was a Medic in the army and all of his training told him to get me to the hospital immediately (he forgot I am 41 and have female & hormone problems). He apologized to me when we got home (at 1am). It's just nice knowing he loves me so much that he would risk looking like a BOOB. Next time we're going to wait 30 minutes and take my temperature again before we panic! Dee

Better to be safe than sorry! It's a little nerve wracking, I think, when we are such fresh posties. It's nice to have the support, isn't it? Your hubby cares a lot for you!! I am a nurse and I can imagine all sorts of weird things..I am trying not to let my imagination run wild! Keep up the sipping and I am sure all will go well. I'm not laughing at you--100 is close enough to 101.5 for me!! Take care and stay cool!!!! Sue

So Dee this is what I have to look forward to...hot flashes in the middle of the night! LOL. Good story! Although it is sweet that your hubby cared so much to get you there before anything happened. Glad it wasn't anything serious. Debbie

Whoa?? Hot flashes on top of everything else. I used to get them doing the day for years. Post surgery I was extremely cold. Sat wrapped up in a blanket, slippers and my flannels. Put the heating pad on and had my hands under it to warm them up. That finallly stabalized after a year or so. I feel kinda back to normal whatever that was?? However I always carry a jacket to cover up with, cause I still tend to get chilly even now especially with the AC on. Weird?? Dineen, I think at first everything will panic your husband. Mine went crazy watching me. I think the WLS was harder on him than on me sometimes. I had the physical & emotional issues, where he had it emotionally and happens to be a stress A personality. Not a good combo. He is surviving. Thank God. Bring him to a couple meetings so he can hear some of the others war stories. Then you will both know what to expect. Of course in the meantime keep an eye on yourself. Try not to beat yourself up too much. Every day is an adventure. If you need to ask any ?? send me an email and I'll send you my phone number. WOW! I thought I was the only one that started freezing after surgery! I kept taking my temp to make sure I didn't have a fever. I shook so bad in the hospital dear Dr. Irgau thought I was having a panic attack!! I kept asking for blankets and everybody was saying, "But you feel normal..." Sorry I didn't get to call--stuff came up with my daughter...and we have an appt with her tonight with her PCP. Maybe tomorrow night? Talk to you real soon-- Sue

Dee That is too bad that something that monumental comes up while you are newly postop. Glad that you and hubby were right on it. You know, others have said that even though it wasn't time for their monthly, that having gastric bypass surgery brought it on... I'm thinking it really works your hormones, so don't worry too much. I wonder if this is a one shot deal or the start of a process? I think that you are too young to be going thru the change. I agree with Elissa. I was always hot before and now I get cold easily. Another definate perk to the surgery. Dianne

No laughter from me Dineen. I have had hot flashes for three years now...opted not to take hormones. Something to think about...tylenol with codeine caused my hot flashes to become worse. Although I have only taken it twice since my surgery both times I had severe hot flashes. Bythe way I have a little something for you. I didn't make it in to see you in the hospital due to an earache. When I called Friday morning the hospital said you had been discharged. I didn't forget you!! We will catch up. Plz send my friend Rosemary Aument some kind words. She was denied surgery one day before her surgery date.
