Has this happened to anyone?
Just wondering if anybody out there has had this happen to them. I had my surgery last Monday (7/11) and so far so good. Tonight we made some homemade chicken and mushroom soup---pureed real good. I ate between 1/4 and 1/3 of a cup, very slowly...over almost an hour. Didn't feel full or bloated afterwards--everything was fine. But about half hour after that, I started feeling like things were sort of coming back towards my throat--kinda like reflux (which I know can't really happen) without the rotten acid taste. I don't feel quesy or sick or anything, but I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like it. I am just sipping water now, and it's staying down. Any clues from anyone?
Thanks--
Sue
Sue,
It has to be the chicken. I am 2 1/2 months out, i had a peice of chicken last night and it made me deathly ill. What's weird is two weeks ago, i had the same thing and it stayed down fine. The pureed part of my recovery was the worst, everything i tried made me ill. I stuck with Cream of tomato soup (Go figure) and Skim Milk, 8 ounces of skim milk has 12 grams protien. Do yourself a favor and mark on the calender each time you get sick, and let the doctor's know. Its happend to me 4 times this month, twice this weekend. Dr Peter's who is my surgeon keeps me coming back on a monthly basis to monitor it. PMRI does sell those powder soups, i can tell you the Tomato one with 6oz. Ho****er has 15 grams of Protien. Thats the only thing i would highly recommend you buy. Good luck and let me know how your doing. One other thing, i do love the Isopure Drinks, each 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of Protein, three bottles of that and all the protein is covered for the day, or at least in my case.
Good Luck!
Kenn
Thanks Kenn--I sipped water all night and around 3 AM started to finally feel better. I am going to call CHRIAS this morning to let them know. I have used the chicken soup from there--I use 8 oz of fortified skim milk (skim mixed with powdered nonfat milk) to up the protein to around 22 grams/serving. This agrees with me the most. Also yogurt--go figure. I don't really like the unjury so far--it seems to change the taste and consistency sometimes. I also have been using some of the Isupure. You are right that it is easy to get your fluids and protein that way. I have put unjury in mashed potatoes also. Once it was okay, the next it yucked me out! Go figure--anyway, thanks for the great advice and I will let you know how things are going! For now, no more chicken meat for me!!!!
Try to stay cool in this heat--
Sue
Hi Sue, Everytime it happened to me I noted it in my journal. Happened alot at first. One day I could eat and the next day I couldn't. I kept track to see if there was a pattern. Not sure what causes this, alot of us will foam too (not a full fledged barf). Usually relieves the tightness in the throat and chest. At 5 wks out, I would eat or drink 1 mouthfull and I would start. Told the Dr's and had an EGD, stoma had constricted so they opened it up. Got better after that. I didn't do well with leftovers. I can only eat it the first time. Couldn't re-heat things. I couldn't do eggs, chicken or hamburg for the first 4/5 months. EEEEWWWW. I kept trying every couple weeks. Hope you are feeling okay. Each day fets better and better. Hang in there. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Hi Elissa,
Saw you on the caller ID so will try to give you a call sometime this evening. Around 3 AM I started to feel a bit better. It's safe to say that soup will stay frozen for a long while, along with the chicken breasts I bought...I think I will stick with the protein chicken soup as I did real well with that...I just had an ounce of strawberry yogurt and it feels pretty good so far. Still feel a little tightness or wierd feeling in my throat, but a heck of a lot better than last night.
It's a funny thing about the unjury--I have one of those Magic bullet mixers and it does a great job mixing the stuff but it tends to incorporate a lot of air into things and then I can't finish the entire drink. I am trying my best but as you well know, when you're full, that's it and I refuse to pu****
I will let you know how things go--thanks so much for checking on me!! Talk to you real soon--
Sue

Bonnie,
Good to hear from you!!
I am doing better today on shakes and soup. Still getting the gas so looks like Gas-X will be on my shopping list. Also I seem to do better with it at night when I lay down, like you say. It's hard to nap because I am recovering at home with my daughter who has autism and 2 active dogs, so it's tough to get a little rest!
Thanks and talk to you soon!!!
