Hi everyone--I've been a lurker for a while, but my buddy Joni was great enough to put my name out there and I really appreciate it! I had my lap bypass Monday at Christiana, and thank God all went real well. I have been getting in as much fluid as I can. You all were right, today went better than yesterday! My only complaint is the GAS...I would give anything for a pin to just make me go BLAM and burst me and get rid of it all...any suggestions for helping it pass (pardon the pun) would be appreciated! I just wanted to say hi and also thanks for all those who sent me a message of support when I needed it most.

Hey Sue!!!!!! Congrats on your success!!! I had gastric bypass 10 weeks ago and had terrible gas. It went in my chest and neck. Walk, Walk, Walk. That is the best medicine. The more I walked that better I felt and the more the gas went away. My Mom suggested to lay flat too. Hope this helps. Good luck to you. Welcome to the losing side. Smiles! Julie

Hey Julie-- I wondered how you have been doing. I have been walking and during the nights the stuff seems to come out, so Mom is right (aren't they always?!!) I saw Don from our PMRI class at CHRIAS during my pre-op appt and he looked great and was feeling great, pureeing "everything he could" and not having any problems. He's such a sweetie. Hope to see you real soon! Thanks for your help and talk to ya soon-- Sue

Hi Bonnie, I have heard so many wonderful things about you--hope we get to meet real soon. I feel better today--for some reason a lot of the gas seems to pass at night while I am lying down. Guess air rises, or falls? Who knows..I just know I don't feel near as bloated. I had my first official drink this morning--woohoo!! I had about 10 ounces of Crystal Light orange with a scoop of Unjury. It took me over an hour to get most of it down, but I felt so full that I stopped before I finished the whole thing. I would rather be cautious and take it slow than test my sutures and barf, you know? I feel pretty good overall, sleeping better and less pain also, so things are okay. How are things with you? Let me know how you are! Thanks again-- Your friend, Sue

Sue, Hello and Congratulations on your surgery!!! About the gas ... I have heard the only thing that really helps is walking it off. Sure wish I had something better to help you out. Hopefully someone else will have better advice to help this problem pass (pun intended) While I did not have this problem right out of surgery, I do deal with wicked pains if I consume much in the way of some sugar alcohols. Can we say "OUCH?" Needless to say, I steer clear when possible, but sometimes still get blindsided if I am not paying enough attention!!! Hugs, Tammy

Sue, Even the Dr.s' advised us that the best solution to the gas is to walk as often as you can. Keep yourself moving, but don't exhaust yourself, and the gas will subside in a couple of days. Glad you see you posting, you're a welcome addition!!!! Joni
