EMG Results
I am home from my EMG and did NOT get good news. Seems the problem is from my L5 S1 which I've had a problem with for years.
The neurologist said I need to have surgery on my back and I was told not to wait. The longer I wait the more nerve damage I will have and they can't even guarantee right now that having this surgery will bring back the feeling in my leg and foot. The only guarantee is that it will get worse if i wait. Now I wait for my pcp to call.
Ok.. so I'm not having a good day now!
Talk about needing time to mentally embrace this one. I think I'll go vaccum.

Hi Ellen
The work part is easy. I have been there long enough to where I get 6 months short term full pay and I've only used 6 wks of it. Being my boss is my best friend I've already called and cried on his shoulder this morning. Somewhere in that conversation I made the smartbutt comment... I guess this is my year to NOT go to work. He was quick to tell me not to worry about it. It's surgery, it can't be helped they would support me.
I am finding out as well that I am VAIN VAIN VAIN. I don't WANT to wear one of those stupid SPLINTS so my foot doesn't drag. I just don't WANT my foot to NOT drag. Apparantly, that is asking too much right now.
I took it all out on my carpet. I don't think it's been vaccumed so well in years! You wouldn't believe the stuff I got out of it. Of course, I found a spot on the carpet that I had to get down and clean and found I could barely get up because of my foot and ankle weakness and numbness so I guess I won't do that again.
You are probably sorry by now that you answered me... man I need to vent on this one and I could go on and on. I think I'll just hush now and go vent on my profile and get this all out.
I'll be positive again tomorrow, I promise!
Thank you so much for the good thoughts!
*hugs*

Gigee,
I'm so sorry to hear about your issues with your back. I know exactly what you're going through. There was a time in my life that I had to walk with a cane for about 6 months because of problems at L4/L5 and L5/S1. My issues weren't as extensive as yours, and I was able to improve my condition with physical therapy rather than surgery, but I was at that crossroads deciding about surgery. Sounds like yours is necessary and not elective.
Take it easy, take care of yourself, and do what is necessary to assure your health and mobility, that's more important than your job. You will get through this, so hang in there!

I have now swept the porch, cleaned the ceilings, bathroom next. I have not idea what I can be doing or shouldn't be doing so I'm going to do it all now in case they tell me to stop.. sheesh
I went through therapy 2 years ago. It has always caused me pain down my left leg, this right leg stuff is very new.
My PCP has spoken with the neurologist that did the test and they put their little heads together and got me an appointment with a Dr. Munson for next week. That is when I'll hear the next steps. He is in the same practice as Dr. Fischer who did my test this morning. My pcp said Dr. Fischer was surprised at what he found. Is this a good thing? And again I say sheesh.
So yes, the therapy has happened and from they way they sounded it is no longer elective.
I'm doing better! I was a wreck this morning.
I read some of your progress earlier. You are doing awesome! Keep it up!
Love you!
