Sugar Free Coffee Drinks At Borders Books???
All this talk about sugar free Water Ice, I have a sugar free food/beverage question...I've been noticing that Borders Books offers a sugar free selection of coffeehouse style drinks...a mint milano, a mudslide...a couple others (but not sure if I have the flavors right?) But anyway, it looks like they start as a hot beverage (like a latte) but can also be iced. The sugar free part comes in that they use SF D'vanci syrups for flavorings. I know these syrups are ok and since the base is like a latte I am figuring I can get it decaf and nonfat...I asked the clerk about any "hidden" sugar, but he was pretty clueless. (Borders does not have nutritional stats on their website or in stores like Starbucks has) So has -- Anyone tried one of these???? Are they OK?

Kit,
I am not familiar with Borders, but just wanted to mention that I have seen posts before on coffee houses, coffees and etc where others have mentioned that they have high fat and high calories and hidden sugars. Perhaps a call to the manager would give you a bit more insight? My motto is "When in doubt, RUN!!" But then I have always been a bit of a chicken at times!
At any rate, I have a recipe that I LOVE for iced or hot coffee on my profile under "SUMMER RECIPES". Maybe that will help you fill that craving at home? Just a thought.
Hugs,
Tammy
Tammy,
I am DEFINITELY going to try your recipes. I "caved" just a day after I posted and got one of those drinks at Borders. Yummy and just fine! I watched it being made...the base is a regular latte (decaf espresso and nonfat milk) which I drink all the time with no problem. In fact, my PMRI nutritionist told me it was good to drink one per day to get the milk...!!!! Anyhow, the latte is the base and it's doctored up with sugar free da'vinci syrups. That's where the mudslide, mint milano, etc come in....I've never been able to duplicate a decent latte at home, or get the right measurements with the syrups so I guess I will keep trying and in the meantime visit Borders ALOT! But I am going to try your recipes too! They sound yummy.
Sorry I didn't repsond sooner. Can't find the time to get on the PC every day. Checking my emails at best so that's how I saw your reply. I am super busy working -- 5 to 6 (8hour) days a week. And the hours can range anywhere from 9am to 8pm. All in all, I don't know if I am coming or going....it WAS a part time job but with others on vacations, illnesses (one girl might be out on sick leave for awhile) I am working what seems non-stop! BUT I love my job, so that's a good thing!
