BCBSD

I am a Maryland resident but have BCBS of Delaware insurance because my employer is headquartered in DE. My doctor said they are sticky about approving WLS. Anyone have BCBSD, and if so, what was your experience with getting insurance approval for your surgery?

As of this morning, my letter of medical necessity from my PCP is in the surgeon's hands, and I had my psych eval on Friday, and she said she would give me clearance from that end, so that's what the surgeon's office said they need to submit for insurance approval. Hopefully I will hear something soon. It took me two years to decide to do this, and now I'm impatient!!

Barbara, We have a lot of folks that live in MD, some probably work for the same Co. that you do. Have you called Chrias yet? CHRIAS, Dr's Irgau, Wynn & Peters office phone number is 301-892-9900. If you talk to the staff there they will fill you in on the process and insurance issues that you have. Hi Barbara, I am from MD, but the insurance we had at the time was highmark Blue Shield, my husbands job was in PA, after I jumped through hoops, meaning I had to do a 6 month supervised diet, I went to my PCP for that. When I finished that I was approved for surgery in DE. I hope that helps. Dana

I have BC/BS of De POs and I didn't have a bit of problem. Dr Wynn wrote my letter and everything went smooth.. Good Luck! BETh

Barbara, I had BCBSDE and I lived in MD. My PCP was in DE and my surgeon and hospital was in DE. I had absolutely no problems at all getting approved. AND my approval happened in record time!!! The surgeons office took care of all the particulars for me. I was shocked at the ease of it. Soooooooo IMHO ... Have hope and forge forward toward your goal ... nothing ventured, nothing gained!!! Hi Barbara! I had absolutely no problems with BCBSDE. If you have any issues, I might be able to help since my husband works for BCBSDE. Since I don't know all the details, I would say follow the procedures and get yourself a contact person in BCBSDE Customer Service who can follow your file and work with you if there are any issues.
