Need advice & help.........fast!
Hi Everyone................Here's my problem. I am scheduled for surgery this Monday the 9th. I just found out that my PCP needs to send copies of my records stating that I've be on a supervised weight loss regiment before Misty can try to get insurance approval. ( I don't think that would really be a problem considering I am on 5 B/P medications, Have had bleeds behind my eyes (due to B/P) I have had both knees scoped, and am looking at a knee replacement if I can't get this weight off. Of course I've said I was concerned about my weight and the Dr. gave me copies of diets, but nothing specifically for weight loss. I have an old weigh****chers card from 6 years ago. I've tried Atkins diet several times, and a few other things. BUT...........NO documented visits. What do I do now?? I have all of my bases covered, my support at home, most of my supplies, and most important....coverage at work.

Bonnie, Go to your Dr.'s office and ask them to make a copy of your records for the last 5 years. Then sit down and make a list of the diets you have been on for the last 5 years, how long they lasted and how much weight you lost. If you can correspond them to the weight fluctuations in your Dr's notes all the better. I went through the same thing with my insurance company and with this documentation they approved me in one day. You have to get the Dr's notes, it is usually not enough to have the Dr. write a note though that will help if he will do one as well. Hopefully his notes will include comments about being morbidly obese and his recommendation for the diets.
Penny
Bonnie,
Penny gave me the same advice and it worked for me. Depending on your insurance company it sounds like you may have enough, if you gather all that information together. Stay on top of your PCP to get the records, and don't take "we're trying to practice medicine" for an answer.
Best of Luck,
Joni
