Hi, I just returned from a 5 day cruise which was was wonderful! My friends want me to start planning another one for next spring break. My question is...has anyone gone on a cruise since they had WLS? I hope to have my surgery in June and wonder what it is like with all the food around on a cruise after surgery. BTW...I ate like a "piggy" on this cruise and still lost 1 pound. Thanks, Ellen

Hi Ellen, I absolutely love cruises!! I will actually be going on my first cruise since surgery this coming september. The was i look at it, i will be just over a year post op at the time of my cruise and don't think that i will have too much of a problem with the eating. Sure there is plenty of food everywhere you turn, but at the same time there are tons of activities all around too to keep your mind off of the food. I plan on getting involved in a lot of the activites, plus at dinner the portions are small enough where it will be just enough for a meal. i'll let you know how i do when i return. But if i were you, book the trip! I was 1 week post op and booked my cruise for this year. I can't wait! -Joe-

Ken, Ken, ken.........you do realize what you just did, right?? Once you go on your first cruise, you'll be hooked and make it a yearly thing. You will love it!! I've never been on Valor, but i have sailed with Carnival the last 3 years, and will be doing it again at the beginning of September! Where are you going?? i'd love to hear about it! -Joe-

Greetings cruisers! This is one kind of vacation that is very easy for WLS patients. I have been on two since I had my surgery. One when I was about 2-3 months out and another one just over a month ago at 8 months out. There are a couple of things I recommend: Eat in the dining room where you get superior service. Make your enjoyment the service, linens etc. rather than lots of food. Order anyting you want just eat a little of what you want. If you eat in the buffet lines just ask for small portions. There is always fish, seafood, and meat is sliced to order. There are always sugar-free desserts. This was a real treat. Enjoy the gym and walking around the deck over and over and over again. But truly cruises are easy to do and I hope you have a great time. Enjoy the ports too. It is easy to get in and out of tenders, taxis, buses and to walk around shopping. Enjoy!!!! Mama
