So, about this PMRI thing...
...is it absolutely MANDATORY to use PMRI when going through CHRIAS or can I go to any nutritionist, psychologist, endocrinologist and whatever the other doctor was to get my clearances? If I choose my own doctors I will end up paying only $80 NOT $1200. I just think it's so unfair - not to mention ridiculous- that they decided not to accept one of the BIGGEST INSURANCE COMPANIES IN THE STATE.
It's amazing how insurance companies treat obesity and weight loss as a "non-issue" when it comes to coverage yet you can't turn on the tv without hearing how FAT Americans are and how obesity is an epidemic in this country.
Let me stop..I'm getting angry.
Well said....I couldn't agree more. I already have my own endrocrinologist that I see every two months and a psychologist that I see on a regular basis. I will do the classes and see whoever they want me to because I really want to have the surgery done, but the cost is ridiculious. I am hoping my insurance will pay some. I have bc/bs ppo. Ellen
Hello Simply, unfortunately, the psychologist and endrocrinologist, will have the last final clearance. You will have to go to PMRI for Life Skills class regardless. If I am not mistaken the $1200 is for this class also. It sucks that they require all the money up front, but I heard some people were not paying.
Hope this helps some.

If your insurance will allow you, you can have it all done at St. Francis, but that includes the surgery, as well. Dr. Irgau et al do operate their now. But, if you go there, you have to use their nutritionist, psychologist, etc and you still have to pay - not as much I don't think - but not really far off either, plus the set up over their is not as good as the one PMRI has, however, you feel about the money, they do have a good program.
Good luck.
p.s. if anyone is not paying PMRI, they are NOT going there.
