another setback

Hi all.................Just a quick update & a question. I was scheduled for surgery on 3/15. This had to be cancelled because Dr Wynn found that I have an ulcer. (When the EGD was done) I have to take medication for 6 weeks, repeat the EGD, and then wait six more weeks before they will schedule surgery. Looks like I might be the last one from our PMRI class to have surgery. Misty said it will probably be early May. But, I am glad they found this BEFORE surgery. MY question is, how can you have a ulcer and have no symptoms? And I also thought you had to be careful what you ate because of it. I got no instructions, other than take the medicine. Oh, does any one know why you have to wait the extra 6 weeks after you complete the medicine to be scheduled for surgery??? Bonnie

Bonnie, I also had an ulcer I did not know about until the EGD. I used the gastroenterologist who does my colonoscopies. He instructed me to cut out caffeine including chocolate, avoid fried and spicy food, no eating 3 hours before bed and elevate the top of my bed. Needless to say I am doing everything he told me. I am treating it as the beginning of the changes I have to make anyway. One more step towards a healthier lifestyle. I am just holding my breath till the retest which was scheduled for 6 weeks after the first one. I am disappointed to hear that it may further delay the surgery. I am sure you must be disappointed but it is much better to go into this with a health stomach. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Penny
