My BMI is only 42 (yeah, "ONLY" - LOL!!) and I worried that they won't think that I'm overweight enough for the surgery. I was actually told at one point that I needed to GAIN 15 pounds in order to be considered. To be honest EVERYTHING is worrying me right now because I've never gotten this close to actually going through with this. My initial consultation with Dr. Irgau is this afternoon and I am soooo nervous. somebody please hold my hand Simply Gawjus

Hi Simply, My BMI was 42 and I passed. They will weight you today and get your BMI. Dr. Irgau will send todays BMI to your Insurance co.later on. That won't change. I believe your BMI has to be 40 and up, not sure if it's changed since my WLS almost a year ago. Good luck, time will pass quickly. Bobbie

Hey there. I've seen a lot of people struggle with stress and fear just like you are. I'd suggest trying to think about it all a little differently...the fact is, you're not "going through with" ANYTHING until the actual moment of your surgery. Until then, you're just learning as much as you can about all the options available to you. Whether you have the surgery or not, you need to have this consultation to find out if this is the best thing for you. The surgeons are entirely capable and only have our highest interest at heart...they're not trying to sell us a product or get our money. They're on our side trying to get us healthy again! You don't ever HAVE to have this surgery...all the pre-operative appointments and classes are just preparation....preparation for whether you decide TO or NOT to have this procedure done...and you don't want this procedure done unless you're as prepared as you're able to be! Relax, be open, be honest, and ask all the questions you have. That's what this part of the journey is about. Good luck with everything! -S
