Hello everyone, I was wondering on regular foods, How can you correctly measure how much 2 oz. of shrimp is? Does anyone know approx. how many pieces? Christie 3 1/2 weeks post op

I use a food scale for all my foods. I haven't had shrimp for a month or so but I believe the medium shrimps there are about 4 in 2 oz. If you are buying them from seafood store by lb. count how many are in that pound. 16 oz = 1 lb. Divide that number into 16 and you will know how many are in an ounce then just double the ounce count. Debbie

WOW!! If that is correct, does 4 pieces really fill you up? Now that does not even seem like a lot at all. Christie

HI Christie, You would be surprised what or how much fills you up. Four shrimp might even be too many for you at first. Remember to chew, chew, chew, and wait a few minutes before the next bite. Have fun experiment with new foods. Ellen

Hi Christie. Before WLS I was able to eat a pound of shrimp by myself along with taters and a vegetable. Now I can eat about 4 medium shrimp. I buy the bags of cleaned frozen shrimp/tail on from Trader Joe's. About $5.99, on sale. I take out what I want and put the rest back. The bag lasts for a long time. Saute in a little butter and onion and garlic. MMMMMM, one of my favorites. Elissa

Elissa, how did you end up cooking yours? I know when I first did it because they are frozen, they contain alot of water. What did you do about that? Christie

Christie, I saute the butter, onion, slices of halepeno pepper & garlic together. Then I put the frozen shrimp in the pan and cook this for 5 minutes or so till they turn pink. The juice helps keep them moist & makes it tasty. I make my husband rice and he puts the shrimp juice and some peas over it. But if you prefer you can drain off the liquid, or defrost 1st pre-cooking. Experiment until you get something you like. Elissa

Christie, Make sure you chew the shrimp extremely well. I had a couple unpleasant episodes from shrimp. I'm fine with it now. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Brett told me before that shrimp does not break down as quickly as some of the other proteins, so basically you need to overchew. Good luck and enjoy!!!!! Best wishes, Debbie

Shrimp is great!!! 4 med shrimp is about right for 2 oz. A quick rule of thumb (no pun intended) is anything approximately the size of your thumb or a little smaller is about an ounce. It's just an easy gauge when dining out especially so you have an idea how much you are eating and don't over eat. Most important thing to remember with shrimp is to chew, chew, chew!!!
