Let's boycott the Borgata in Atlantic City

OK. I have to vent! Did everyone hear about the weight requirement for ****tail waitresses and bartenders at the Borgata? How dare they! Whether you are pre-op or post-op, allowing an employer to set weight limits is wrong. The airlines had to drop that nonsens years ago. It's discrimination and we shouldn't tolerate it - no matter what size we are (or were). If you or someone that you know is planning a trip to Atlantic City, please encourage them to select one of the many other fine casinos and to avoid the Borgata until they come to their senses. I'm not necessarily defending employers who wish to impose weight requirements on their employees, but I can see in some cases where it would be needed. Flight attendants need to be in good physical condition to perform their jobs well. They do so much more than just the coffee, tea or me thing. their primary job is passenger safety. As unhappy as it may seem, a 300 pound flight attendant may not be able to assist you in escaping the plane in an emergency. The same reasons that they require passengers of a certain weight to sit in seats other than near the emergency exits. I guess the question comes in as to where to draw the line between descrimination, and being allowed to hire employees that meet the standards of the image you're trying to sell. Right or wrong, the casinos are in buisiness to make money and attractive girls mean higher profits. This is a slippery slope in all areas. Within the last few weeks a Michigan employer decided that no smokers may work there. he provided all kinds of counseling and stop smoking assistance for the employees. Several quit smoking, several refused and were told to find employment elsewhere. Some aspects of these stories seem fair, other times they don't. I guess it's the way of the world we live in. I prefer the boardwalk anyway, I lose less money there Linda

Hi Cassandra. Sorry I don't think it's discrimination not to hire obese waitors and waitresses. It's just a good business practice. Let's face it. At 356 lbs, my legs couldn't have done what a 140 lb'er could do. Not to mention How silly would I have looked in a skimpy outfit. As an Electronic Engineer I faced the male/female thing, but once I proved myself, customer's & fellow empolyee's accepted & respected me. As an obese person, I was on the road, 5 days a week. I was a technician for 20 yrs. I could hardly do it and the last 3 yrs so I took a customer service job, inside. Even there my size was becoming a hinderance. I had IBS, high BP, high cholesterol and could hardly walk. When I did I was out of breath and was always sweating. It is about size and weight limitations. I am not black so I have never experienced racial discrimination. Sorry I can not relate to it. Moving on, I was IRIF'D Dec 2003. My job was outsourced to Canada. Since WLS, Jan 2004, I have gotten my health and life back. I was able to go back to my primary job, hairdressing, never gave it up, and by the grace of God have found a job that I love. I am working at a retirement home 2 days a week making more money in 1 day than I did 25 yrs ago in a week. So take the negatives, throw them away and focus on the positive. I thing you can loose more calories smiling anyway. Elissa
