High Cholesterol??
Wondering if anyone had this experience...my blood work at surgery time, 3 months and 6 months has been fine EXCEPT my cholesterol is going UP! All the docs and the nutritionist said we are going to keep an eye on things and I am getting more bloodwork next month. Dr. Iragu said something about some (very few) people having this type of reaction while they are on Actigall. I am off Actigall and we are giving my body a month to straighten out. My liver function is also elavated and going UP. Both of these things typically go down when you lose weight and I've lost 90 pounds.
Anyone experience this?
Wondering?
Hi Kitty,
I have not had this experience myself, but Dr. Baag told me at my first PMRI follow-up that this wasn't unusual at all ( he is an endocrinologist ) and that it sometimes takes 6 months or more to get an accurate reading on what the outcome will be for some people. Hope this helps. Liver function can be elevated for all kinds of reasons. I remember mine coming back high several times in my 30's and the doc asking me if I drank alot lol.
Remember exercise and oatmeal go a long way toward dropping those overall cholesterol numbers. Good luck to you and I hope it goes down fast!

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to see how it goes. I don't think I'd be as concerned as I am if it wasn't going UP. Ya know, like at my heaviest weight, my levels were actually better! So I guess I get to be the "lucky" person whose cholesterol goes UP as she loses weight! Anyhow, I am doing oatmeal every day, and I exercise too. Like I said Dr. Iragu said I shouldn't be too concerned but that we have to keep an eye on things. I'm probably worrying about nothing...funny though, this time last year I wouldn't have cared less what my bloodwork was...we had an "oh well, it's my weight" attitude. Can't use that excuse anymore! But thanks for sharing, I never got to meet Dr. Baag but I heard nice things about him.

I take fish oil for cholesterol. (order on the phone) I also take 1 teaspoon of Lysine (Vitamine Shoppe) to help keep mine down. I stopped taking Zocor, Lipitor and Zetia over the last 3 years. I couldn't handle the cramps in my legs 24/7. Side effect of Cholesterol medicine. I also eat oatmeal & flaxseed everyday. Keep an eye on it like the Doc's say. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Leave it to my "angel" to come to the rescue! Elissa, you know me VERY WELL, and you know if I don't worry about everything, I'm not me! My cholesterol is not high enough to require meds. I should be thankful for that! Anyhow, I am going to listen to all the voices of reason -- including Dr. Iragu -- and just wait and see. I know if it was something Dr. Iragu thought needed attention, he would be right on it! Because he is the best! So I am just going to focus on the positive things that came out of all my 6 month appts. -- bottom line is I am doing GREAT with my diet and exercise. So I'm not going to worry -- of course, until I find something ELSE to worry about! THAT"S ME!
