I have a rather indelicate question.
Okay, here it is. How long after surgery should you have your first bowel movement. I have been on the pureed diet 3 days now and haven't done anything since the day before surgery (last Sunday). I don't really feel constipated. I am having pretty regular gas, but without discomfort so far. Should I be worried?
Thanks,
Donna

Donna,
As far as I understand it, it is not uncommon at all. I have several friends who went through the same thing. You are not eating much and your bowels are still a bit sluggish after the surgery. BUT always remember, that if there is ever the slightest doubt, please call your doc, they want to be aware of all symptoms and/or concerns. At first I was a bit uncomfortable calling and "bothering" my doc. But truly he made me feel so very comfortable calling and always assured me that he would rather be safe than sorry and it was better for him to check out my symptoms than for me to play doctor! I only had to call a couple of times, but it certainly was a weight off my shoulders to talk with him and to know that all was well.
Congratulations on your surgery!!! Hold on tight ... what a wonderful ride you have ahead!!!
Hugs,
Tammy
