I had my EDG done today. This was the last test that I had to do. Dr Wynn performed the test and told me surgery had to be postponed because my insides looked like a battle zone. I had a surgery date of 3/15. I have two areas of concern at the top of my lower intestine, and the bottom of the stomach. Could be major bacteria, or the beginings of ulcers, and I'll need to take medication for 6 weeks, and then repeat the EDG again to see if everything is cleared up enough to go ahead with the surgery. Just my luck..................I knew something would happen. Everything was going along too smoothly. I have the WORST luck!! Has this happened to anyone else?? Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, I'm so sorry this happened to you, but at the same time, I'm glad it did! Thankfully we have awesome thorough surgeons who won't operate unless we are in the best condition we can be in. I hear so many horror stories of ones who operate, take the money and run without putting the patients best interests first. Take the meds for 6 weeks and be retested, hopefully everything will be just fine then. I have found in my journey through gastric bypass that timing is everything and to just let things happen in their own time. Just a bump in the road, the hard stuff is done. I'm looking forward to seeing the post that says you are a post-op and feeling wonderful with NO complications! Hang in there, Linda

Linda, Thanks for your words of wisdom. I too, am really glad that the surgeons do such extensive testing. I would rather they find something now, instead of being surprised by something while I was on the table. Just a small set back. Thanks, Bonnie

Hi Bonnie! Please try not to look at this in a negative way. It may not be what you wanted but it may have saved your life. Just imagine if they didn't do the test or chose to ignore the results. Recovery from surgery is tough enough without inviting complications to the party. Is this inconvenient? Yes. Would it be more inconvenient to end up staying in the hospital for weeks after the surgery because of bleeding ulcers or a spreading infection? Oh yes. Please try to think of this additional time as more time to prepare. Practice those good life skills now - drinking and eating healthy, exercising daily, stopping junk food, etc. We chose Dr. Wynn & Dr. Irgau because they are the best in the area. Trust the doctor. She knows what she's doing. Take care! Cassandra

Cassandra They always say to look at things from both sides. While I am a little disappointed that surgery may be postponed for a few weeks, I am also grateful that I will have those extra weeks to be more prepared for "after life" of surgery. Thanks..................Bonnie

Bonnie, I know this is a disappointment..but, as Linda said, in the end, it's the best thing. Usually, something like this happens for a reason. This gives you a few more weeks to prepare yourself and your body. I had a few small ulcers and had to take Nexium for 4 weeks, when they re-checked, everything looked good and I was able to keep my surgery day (6 days later!). If I had to wait at this point, yes, I would have been disappointed, but relieved also. So, keep your chin up and stay positive, it'll all work out in the end. Best of luck! Valerie

Hang in there sweetie. The focus hasn't really changed if you think about it. Sugery still on the horizen and the goal of having the safest surgery and results possible is still there. Your perfect day for surgery will come and those bumps along the road the are nothing more than small ways to ensure you are the healthiest you can be. *hugs* Gigee
