Did everyone experience this?

For all of those who have had the surgery, did everone have to get a catheter? If so, were you awake or in surgery when that did it? Sorry to be asking such a question but, I was just curious.

Hi Ms. Lysa. My catheter was put in while I was out! I woke up and it was in, however, I had my surgery downstate. I have had one other surgery and my catheter was placed in after I was under too. Have a great day. ~Shelly

Hello Ms. Lysa I had my surgery on 1/25/05 and they put the catheter in while you are sleeping. When you wake up yes it is there and normally stays in 24 hours until the nurse takes it out. Christie 2 weeks post op -27.4 lbs.

Hi Ms. Lysa. My experience was the same - catheter inserted while I was under in surgery. Barely knew it was there until they took it out the next day. However, after they take it out make sure you pee as much as you can, no matter how hard it is. I had trouble, and when they realized at 1:00 in the morning that I hadn't met my quota (they can tell you exactly, it's so much per shift cumulative), they said I should try as hard as I could to pee or they would have to put the catheter back in - while I was awake!! Since that was not something I ever want done in life if I can help it, I did my damnest, and after 45 mins. in the bathroom w/the shower running, I finally did it! I was so excited! And wouldn't ya know it, once I started, I couldn't stop! I went another 3 times that same night; it's like the gates creaked open, and then all of a sudden someone sprayed WD40 on them and they swung open! Hope this helps and good luck! Hugs, Bertie

I have had quite a few of those puppies in my life time and if they ever put one in me while I was asleep then they took it out while I was still sleeping for I don't know about it *grin* I've had all of mine while awake and though each time I got a tab bit nervous, each time when it was done I thought.. well.. that was no biggie.
