How long does the increased sense of smell last after surgery?

Hi! Has anyone else experienced an increased sensitivity to odors during their first few months post-op? Before the surgery, the house could be on fire and I probably wouldn't smell the smoke. Now, every smell has an impact. I can't take strong food smells like seafood and spices. The smell of some protein powders makes me gag. I can't even wear my favorite perfume because the smell seems to "stick" in my throat. I'm really bummed out by this because it's keeping me from eating tuna fish. I can't take the smell. Even when I open a can of tuna for my cats (a special treat for them), I have to hold my breath and get out of the kitchen quickly. This is just very strange to me. I've also developed a sensitivity to the temperature of foods. I can't do very hot food or beverage and I can't do ice-cold food or beverage. Please tell me this passes! Thanks, Cassandra

Hi Cassandra, This passed for me fairly quickly. I could smell every little thing after surgery. I love the smell of my dish detergent, it's orange and after surgery, I could not stand the smell. But it passed within a week for me. Everyone's body is different. Hope you get over it soon I know it sucks. Christie 2 weeks post op -27.4 lbs.
