For recent post-ops - Beware the UTI

Hi! For anyone who is less than six weeks post-op, keep alert for the development of a Urinary Track Infection (UTI). They mentioned that this could happen as a result of the cathether. However, nobody told me that it could take several weeks post-op before it shows up. Since I didn't have any problems immediately after surgery, I assumed that I wouldn't have to deal with this type of infection. Wrong! Last week, I ended up in the emergency room (and then admitted to the hospital for 3 days). The culprit? UTI. Apparently it can take several weeks before the symptoms get severe enough for you to be in pain. Won't happen to everyone but, if you're just a few weeks out from surgery, don't be afraid to call CHRIAS if you are having any type of abdominal or back discomfort. It could be a UTI. Thanks for the heads up and I hope you feel better. UTIs are not cool.
