good rumor is that bypass just about cures T2 diabetes. don't know why, although reduced intake is good for blood sugar management. What about lapband? Same results or different?? Please help; your answers are important!!

Hi Carol, I'm a type II diabetic who no longer has symptoms of the disease. However, I will always consider myself to be diabetic as it could resurface at anytime. But yes, for all intents and purposes, it's considered a 'cure' I'm not sure about the same results with the lapband tho. From the research that I have done, and the doctors that I have spoken to that study this, the reason the changes are so dramatic in bypass patients has to do with the physical rearrangement of the intestines, and a horomose that is released that helps use insulin more effectively. This is one of the main reasons I chose this path, I figured in some small way I might contribute to the diabetic research being done. There has been a similar operation ( NOT for weight loss ) done in Europe for a number of years now that has been very successful in treating diabetics. Say I managed to lose 30 - 40 pounds on my own, the change in blood glucose would not be nearly as dramatic as it would be losing the same amount of weight through a bypass. I haven't had a med since I left the hospital. My A1c hovers in the 5 range ( will have that rechecked in 2 weeks ) and my random checks that I do every week show me to be in the normal range of 80 - 90 no matter what time of day or if I have been fasting. I'm hoping someone that had lapband responds, I'm interested to see what kind of results they got for the same time frame. I am 10 months out. I hope this helps you. Linda

bypass is better for t2 diabetes----it makes your stomach smaller which causes greater weight loss!, 2nd you cant have any high sugar foods because you'll experience dumping syndrome. lapband only limits intake but not food choices. generally the surgeons only do lapband if you have 100 lbs of weight to lose, if more than 150 lbs they do bypass.Lapband is harder to get the insurance co. to approve!,because they typically have a lot more reversals, where the patient ends up getting bypass any way.
