Today's Doc Visit
Met Dr. peters for the first time today, he is very nice, I liked him alot. Turns out he is a friend of hubby's cousin. Small world. I called last week after having a hemmorhoid (sp) that gave me a scare when I had some bleeding with it. The scheduled me to come in today and asked if I minded seeing Dr. Peters instead of Irgau as he was the one available. I had no problem with that. Turns out I had a completely normal sequence of events that resolved on it's own. I kind of thought that might be the case, but was glad I had it checked anyway. No further action is needed right now.
I am down 108 pounds say yay! The doc says no need for me to come in again in 2 months for my one year check, that I could consider this to be it. Of course I will still have my labs done and see the PMRI doc, if anything odd shows up on the labs, Dr. Irgau will see me before but other than that, I'm good until July for my 18 month checkup. The time has flown by and my health is so much better than it was pre-op.
I'm exercising quite a bit, at least 45 mins of walking everyday, weight lifting 3 times a week and also the occasional DVD workout. I think I might add an extra mile in on days when the weather is nice. The snowy stuff is really starting to bug me and I've had enough. I'm ready for spring and some extra daylight.
I'm still getting in lots of protein on a regular basis, usually between 90 - 120 grams a day depending. I eat a fair amount of veggies too, usually a salad everyday for lunch with either cheese or shrimp or whatever on it for protein. I add ground flax to them too as well as to my oatmeal. I eat oatmeal several times a week and love it. I used to hate it, funny how tastes change as a post-op. I measured today and have lost inches again. My weight loss is slower than it was but it's all good. I feel good,I'm healthy, I look good, I can buy clothes off the rack that aren't plus sizes, I'm not going to worry about what a scale number says. It's all good!
Hope you all had a good day too,
Linda
Linda,
Congratulations! I have had a great day, and reading your post makes it that much better. You have done great and been an inspiration to all of us. It is so great to hear someone who is thinking well beyond the surgery, and thinking about their health and their new lifestyle.
I too am bummed out about the dog days of winter, since it limits my physical activity to the gym. But it won't be long and we'll be outside again.
Your bud, Rob
Hi Linda, Thanks for the input on Dr. Peter's. He sounds knowlegeable. I wonder if at your age, Hmmmmm, 40ish, you might need to have the colonoscopy test. Might want to bring it up with your PCP next visit. Can't be too sure about things unless it is tested. Didn't hurt a bit. They give you the same Mind eraser drugs that you get for the EGD. You won't feel or remember a thing.
Protein and exercise sounds great. You have the best attitude. That's why you will be successful in getting healthy and staying healthy. I'll take all the inch loses I can get. The healthy habits that you are forming are working for you. Protein, fluids and exercise = The BIG 3 = Healthy, fit and happy.
I'm not letting the snow keep me down. Course I am looking forward to going to Cancun next week. It'll be good to get out of Dodge and see some sun and warm sandy beaches. I'll bring home some sunshine for everyone.

Howdy there E,
Dr. P did mention having a colonoscopy, but what he said was that a 42 year old, otherwise healthy female with no other symptoms may not accomplish much by having one done other than to expose myself to unecessary risks from the test itself at this point. Perforations of the colon etc that would require more surgery if it happened. I felt comfortable with that so I opted for the monitor the situation approach. I finally got those images of a garden hose with a flashlight out of my head lmao. Just kidding, tests like that don't freak me out too much, the stories are always much worse than the reality. Bring me a little jar of sand, it's probably as close as I'll ever get to Cancun! Charlie have his speedo packed yet? Ok, don't tell him I said that
Have a wonderful trip, love ya much!
Linda
